Beachfront condo complex with green grounds and an easygoing ambiance

Bahia Pez Vela Resort is situated on sprawling grounds, where wide roads lined with blossoming flowers wind between neat rows of villas. The resort backs on to a curved gray-black sand beach fringed by greenery. While the beach is small and rocky in some areas, it displays a striking contrast between the dark sands and blue water. The resort is popular with families, as well as groups of friends, with three- and four-bedroom villas not offering the best value for lone couples or solo travelers. The pool, beach, and restaurant can get busy, but the vibe is rarely rowdy. The owners of many of the individually owned units visit regularly, so you’ll find many guests are quite familiar with the property, the staff, and one another. There’s not a lot within walking distance, so guests should be prepared to rent a car or pay for the occasional taxi ride to the grocery store.

Location

Secluded location along a hilly road, a 20-minute walk from Playa Ocotal

Bahia Pez Vela Resort is set at the end of a backroad within the small community of condo complexes and hotels that populate the area around Playa Ocotal. The resort is right on its own private beach and is a 20-minute walk away from Playa Ocotal. It’s one of the less touristy beaches in Guanacaste — more popular with locals than with visitors — yet its black sands are quite attractive, and the waters off the coast offer excellent snorkeling conditions.  There are a few restaurants within walking distance, but nightlife is virtually nonexistent, making this area an ideal base for guests with little interest in the region’s party scene. The buzzing shops, bars, and restaurants of Playa del Coco are a 15-minute drive away, while the surf town of Tamarindo can be reached in about 90 minutes by car. The airport is a 40-minute drive away, and it’s just under two hours to Rincon de la Vieja National Park.

Homey villas with full kitchens and up to two-and-a-half bathrooms

Villas at Bahia Pez Vela Resort are individually owned, and therefore the decor varies significantly from unit to unit. Bedrooms are located on the upper levels, while the living areas, kitchens, and half bathrooms are set on the ground floors. All villas are tidy and bright, but not particularly modern. Tiled flooring, busy floral patterns, and beachy themes are common. Many bedrooms have white furniture and wooden closets, and master bedrooms include furnished balconies. Some units have TVs in every bedroom, while others only have TVs in the living rooms. All units feature washer/dryers and DVD players.

Bathrooms are stocked with bars of soap and towels and have either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Kitchens have counter stools, full-sized fridges, ovens, and dishwashers, along with ample cookware and cutlery. Villas also include big six- to eight-person dining tables, and separate sitting areas with comfy sofas and chairs. Some feature private outdoor pools.

Two pools, decent on-site restaurant, and direct access to a lovely private beach

Bahia Pez Vela Resort covers the basics when it comes to amenities travelers would expect from a mid-range, beachfront resort. The hotel’s two-tiered main pool is divided into three sections, one of which features an infinity ledge facing the ocean. The concrete deck surrounding the pool is lined with soft-blue lounge chairs as well as a few picnic tables shaded by thatched roofs. Palm trees create a few shady corners. A second, quieter pool is located up a steep hill in another section of the large property. Although more modest in size, this pool has a dramatic infinity ledge overlooking the forested surroundings and stretching out toward the ocean.

The resort’s on-site restaurant, Picante, is one of the better places to eat in the area, attracting a number of outside visitors, including locals. The decor isn’t particularly remarkable, with wooden chairs and dark, tiled flooring, but the views of the main pool are appealing. Poolside dining and room service is available. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property and there’s free parking on-site.

The Russian diplomatic mission in Tokyo rejected accusations by American colleagues of unwillingness to abide by the rules and respect memorable dates important for Japan, in particular Northern Territories Day. Moscow does not recognize territorial claims to the South Kuriles and any related “festivities”, said Ambassador Mikhail Galuzin.

Russia does not recognize illegal territorial claims to the South Kuriles and “festivities” on the occasion of the Day of the Northern Territories – this is how Russian Ambassador Mikhail Galuzin responded to criticism from his American colleague Rahm Emanuel, who had previously called on the Russian diplomatic mission to show “respect” on the day the Shimoda Treaty on Trade was concluded and borders, signed by Japan and the Russian Empire. According to this agreement dated February 7, 1855, the islands of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and the Habomai group of islands were ceded to the Japanese. The holiday is celebrated from 1981 years old.

“The time is correct. For those who may not yet know the Russian position: Russia does not recognize the illegal territorial claims to our South Kuriles and, accordingly, the “festivities” associated with this, the Russian diplomat wrote on Twitter .

“The transfer of the above territories to the Soviet Union is clearly recorded in the Yalta Agreement of 1945, signed by the USSR, the USA and Great Britain as allies in their war against Nazi Germany and its ally, militaristic Japan,” added Galuzin.

The ambassador stressed that “talks” about anti-Russian sanctions and other measures against Moscow are “intimidation” that “has no effect.”

“It’s hard to imagine a more inopportune moment”

On Wednesday, February 2, Ambassador Galuzin said at a press conference that Tokyo’s statements about the situation around Ukraine are “counterproductive and do not contribute to creating a positive atmosphere in the dialogue between Russia and Japan.” He also added that Moscow has never negotiated ownership of the southern Kuril Islands.

After that, Ambassador Emanuel accused the Russian diplomat of allowing himself allegedly incorrect statements on the eve of the Northern Territories Day. “It is difficult to imagine a more inopportune moment than the one that the Russian ambassador chose to threaten Japan. He doesn’t realize that next Monday [in Japan] is Northern Territories Day. Rules and respect are important,” the US Ambassador tweeted on Twitter . It also emphasizes that the United States supports Japan “in view of common values and principles.”

In mid-January, the Japanese Foreign Ministry once again outlined Tokyo’s position: Japan’s sovereignty extends to the southern part of the Kuriles. “Our sovereignty extends to the four northern islands (as the Russian southern Kuriles are called in Japan). We intend to continue persistent negotiations on the basis of our basic position, which is the desire to sign a peace treaty after the settlement of the territorial issue,” Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi told . In addition, the Japanese side called the “strengthening of Russia’s military presence” near the Kuriles unacceptable and condemned the practice of shooting near the island of Kunashir.

“There can be no conversation.” The Kuril Islands will not be leased to the Danes

Presidential Envoy to the Far East Yuri Trutnev said that the Kuril Islands should be leased…

06 December 20:21

The territorial dispute over the ownership of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and the Habomai group of islands became a stumbling block in Japanese-Soviet, and then in Japanese-Russian relations after World War II. The area of these islands is 5,000 km², but the total area of the disputed territory, which includes a 200-mile economic zone, is approximately 200,000 km². The Japanese authorities consider the islands to be illegally occupied territory. Since 2012, the official wording has become softer: “employed without legal grounds.”

Due to disagreements over territorial affiliation, Japan does not approve of Russia’s desire to attract foreign investors to the Kuriles.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in September promised to completely exempt the enterprises of the islands from paying key taxes: profit, property, land and transport. Tokyo stated that the introduction of a special tax regime in the Kuriles is unacceptable. State Duma will consider law in the spring session.

White code | Mountain Bike in Novosibirsk

This is a short list of Rules of Behavior on the Slope, to prevent accidents when riding. They can be considered the ideal model for a responsible and prudent Biker.
Each Biker is obliged to know these rules well, respect and abide by them.

Rule 1. Respect others

A biker must behave in a way that does not endanger or harm others.

Comment: The biker is responsible not only for his behavior, but also for the failure of his equipment. This also applies to the use of novelties – newly developed equipment.

Rule 2 Speed and Direction Control

A biker must move in a controlled manner. His speed and method of descent must be adapted to his personal abilities, the prevailing conditions: the slope, the weather and the number of people on the slope.

Commentary: Collisions often occur due to the fact that bikers are going too fast, not watching others, not noticing them. The biker must be able to stop, turn and move within the boundaries of his field of vision. In a crowded area of the track or in a place where visibility is limited, the biker should ride slowly, especially at the edge of a steep slope, at the bottom of the track and in the area near the lifts.

Rule 3 Choice of Direction

A biker approaching from behind must choose the direction of travel in such a way as not to endanger the biker in front.

Commentary: Cycling is a free sport, where everyone can ride where and how he likes, provided that he respects these rules and measures his riding with his abilities and conditions on the track. The biker in front has priority. A biker riding behind another in the same direction must maintain sufficient distance between him and the other biker so that the biker in front can perform all his movements freely, including falling.

Rule 4 Overtaking

A biker may overtake another biker on the right or left, provided he leaves enough room for the biker being overtaken to allow any intentional or unintentional movement. The biker who was caught up, if he hears that they are driving behind him, he must give way to the track, clinging to its edge and let the overtaking one pass.

Commentary: A biker overtaking another biker is fully responsible for the fact that the maneuver performed by him will not create any difficulties for the biker (including a stationary one) whom he overtakes. This responsibility remains with him until the overtaking is completed.

Rule 5 Exit, start, uphill he can start moving without endangering himself or others.

Commentary: Experience has shown that entering the highway and starting from a stop is often the cause of accidents. It is extremely important that the biker enters the track carefully and carefully, without creating interference and without endangering himself and others. When a biker has started moving, even if it is slow, he has the advantage, according to Rule 3, over faster bikers approaching from above or behind.

Rule 6. Stopping on the track

Except in an emergency, a biker must avoid stopping on the track in narrow places or where visibility is limited. After a fall in such places, the biker must clear the track as soon as possible.

Commentary: With the exception of very wide trails, stops must be made at the edge of the trail. A biker should not stop in narrow places and where it will be difficult for others to see him from above.

Rule 7. Climbing and descending without a bike

A biker going up and down without a bike must keep to the edge of the course.

Comment: Driving against the main direction can create unexpected obstacles for bikers. Footprints damage the track and can be a hazard to bikers.

Rule 8 Obey the signs and markings

The biker must obey the signs and markings on the slope.

Comment: The difficulty level of the course is indicated by the corresponding color: black, red, blue and green. The biker is free to choose which route to go down. The slopes have other signs indicating the direction, warning of danger and / or the closure of the track. Road closure signs, like hazard warning signs, must be clearly visible. The biker must understand that the warning signs are in his interest.

Rule 9. Help

In the event of an accident, it is the duty of every biker to help the victim.

Commentary: It is a basic principle for all outdoor enthusiasts to provide assistance to victims of accidents, whether they are legally required to do so or not. Immediate first aid must be provided, the relevant authorities notified, and the place where the accident occurred is marked to warn other bikers. We hope that all incidents and violations of the rules of traffic on a slope will be subject to legislation similar to that used in the analysis of traffic accidents, and that similar penalties will be imposed on violators in all countries where such legislation is not yet in force.
