Football stadium and museum tour

Every year, thousands of football fans from all over the world flock to Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona.

Camp Nou – FC Barcelona stadium

With a capacity of 100,000 spectators, the stadium has become a mecca for football fans all over the world. To learn all about the famous FC Barcelona stadium and a tour of the club’s museum, I visited the stadium one Thursday in February. This is the most popular tour in Barcelona of all. There were no matches on the day I was at the stadium, but there were crowds of fans in the stadium paying homage to the “football shrine” of Barcelona. It is no exaggeration to say that Camp Nou is not just a stadium, like FC Barcelona, which is said to be “more than a club”.

Brief description of the tour

After a tour of the FC Barcelona stadium, I realized that this tour can give a real sense of what it is like to be behind the scenes of such a famous football club. You can look at everything through the eyes of players and managers, after which you will watch matches or interviews in a completely different way.

You can sit in VIP chairs

Ticket for the Barcelona FC Camp Nou Experience gives you access to the club’s backstage, museum and multimedia centre.

The tour is self-guided, which means there will be no guides. And you will be guided by yellow fences that limit the tour route. There are security guards/stadium staff along the route who will help you if you get lost, however they will not be able to answer questions about the exhibits on display.

Photo exhibition of the club

There are information boards along the entire tour route. If you want to get more detailed information during the tour, then I advise you to take an audio guide. You can buy them at the main counter. Read more about audio guides below.

Camp Nou Experience Tour route – self-guided tour of Barcelona FC stadium:

  1. “Virtual Stadium” – a ten-minute introductory 3D video about the tour of the stadium.
Hall where “Virtual Stadium in 3D” is shown

A 3D video is shown before the start of the stadium tour. It’s more for kids who will love the 3D effects. Probably, in order to reach an international audience, the video is given without text and words. The video helps to imagine what it is like to be on the field during the match. The 3D video shows excerpts from famous matches.

  2. Away team dressing room .

Here you will have the chance to walk around the dressing room reserved for the visiting team. You will be surprised how unpretentious everything is there. I think this is so as not to give the away team extra advantages!

    Shared bath

It’s a pity we couldn’t see the locker room of the stadium owners. According to the audio guide, it’s much more impressive, with a meeting room, spa, treatment room, and pharmacy.

  3. Football Club Chapel

    Football Club Chapel .

The chapel was opened in 1958 and blessed by Pope John Paul II in 1982. A place where players can pray before the start of a match.

  4. Tunnel through which players enter the field .

Tunneling is exciting. It’s an opportunity to feel like you’re on the pitch before a big game, with a roaring crowd of 100,000 fans waiting at the other end of the tunnel. During the tour, the stadium is, of course, empty, but with a little imagination, and you are on the game.

  5. Benches (or the so-called “bank”) – benches near the field.
    View from the press box

For me, this was the most exciting part of the tour. At this point, you will be closest to the field, as if you were the manager of the team. I wasn’t prepared for the impression that the 105m x 68m pitch and 48m high stands would make on me. Imagine there are 100,000 passionate fans in the stands and you can imagine what a Barcelona FC match looks like through the eyes of the team’s management.

  6. FC Barcelona press office .
    Press Center

The hall can accommodate 120 journalists. It is here that press conferences are held before and after matches. After each match, two players meet with the press. Players are chosen depending on what happened to them on the field or off the field.

  7. Mix zone – a place where teams give post-match comments for the press.

This is where interviews are given that you have seen a thousand times on TV. “Well, Alan, I think we had a great match…” You will see the familiar blue background and sponsor logos. It’s so cool to see this live.

  8. Organizational hall – a place for holding corporate meetings.

Here, in a comfortable environment, sponsors communicate with each other before and after matches.

  9. Miro Lithograph .
Miro lithograph dedicated to FC Barcelona

Artwork created by the artist Miró in honor of FC Barcelona.

  10. Five star plate.

In 1999 the stadium received a five-star rating. The same rating as hotels, only in the sports world.

  11. FC Barcelona Presidents’ Honor Roll .

This board bears the names of all the presidents of the club since its inception.

  12. Presidential Box

This is an opportunity to enjoy the best view of the stadium. The president and his guests of honor sit in this part of the stadium. What an opportunity to feel like the president of a football club or Victoria Beckham.

  13. Press Stocks
    View from the press box

29 booths are located 35 meters above the field. From these booths, commentators report on matches. Standing there, you can imagine the commentators playing the game or cheering after a goal is scored.

More about the museum:

Museum overview.

It should be noted that the tour of the stadium, apart from the museum, is rich and can take a couple of hours. If you are also planning a thorough walk through the museum, then it is worth taking something to eat with you.

Stadium audio guide overview

Audio guide player

An audio guide can be purchased at the entrance before the start of the Barcelona FC Camp Nou Experience Tour.

The audio guide is a small player that is hung around the neck and one earpiece. It is controlled in the same way as a regular player. Each stop along the tour is marked with a number that corresponds to the track number in the audio guide. Your task is to turn on the appropriate track during the tour. You can also listen to the selected tracks an unlimited number of times. Useful if you missed something and want to listen to the information again.

In order to borrow an audio guide for the duration of the tour, you will need to leave a document as a deposit. In order not to give away your passport, you can show them your bank card.

In my opinion, the audio guide is a useful addition to the tour. He gave me the opportunity to look at the things I saw during the tour through the prism of the history of the club. In addition, it contains more complete information than information plates.

Museum Overview

The museum consists of three parts:

  1. Historical part of the FC Barcelona museum.

This is the largest part of the museum. You will learn the history of the club in chronological order, starting from the year of foundation in 1899

One of the many display cases with trophies

If cups interest you more than history, you won’t be disappointed. The showcases of the museum are filled with evidence of the main achievements of the club.

The most important trophy – the Champions League Cup, is also located here. For a fee, you can even touch it. Here you can take a picture with friends holding a cup. The picture can be bought at the exit of the museum.

    UEFA Champions League Cup

If you don’t need a photo, you don’t have to buy it. Therefore, nothing will stop you from touching the Champions League Cup, even if you do not have extra money in your pocket!

  2. Section of the FC Barcelona Museum dedicated to the “Futbol art” collection

This section of the museum is less defined. There are many sports-related exhibits on display here – everything from old foosball tables to football memorabilia and artwork.

  3. Section of the FC Barcelona Museum where temporary exhibitions are held

This section of the museum is constantly changing. When I was there, this section had an exhibition dedicated to Joan Gamper, the man who founded FC Barcelona.

In general, the museum is focused mainly on the presentation of material with the help of visual stands. It seemed to me that a certain balance was found here, which made it possible not to overload visitors with an excessive amount of information. All aspects of the club are covered in detail and in a logical order.
