Barcelona’s harbour marina is called Port Vell, which means ‘old port’ in Catalan language. Port Vell marina borders the gothic quarter and Barceloneta and is a lively and popular area for visitors and fishermen. For tourists there are many things to do both on and near the water.

At Port Vell you can find the Maritime museum, the Columbus Monument, the Barcelona aquarium, the shopping mall Maremagnum and many activities including bike tours, segway tours, harbour boat tours and many fantastic restaurants and cafes in the Barceloneta area.

Port Vell used to display a replica of the submarine “Ictineo II” which was the worlds first working submarine. It was built in 1864 in Barcelona by the Catalan inventor “Narcus Monturiol i Estarriol” who came from Figueres and was born on the same street as painter Salvador Dali. The submarine made its maiden voyage on 20th May 1865.

It has currently been removed for renovation. Read more about the exciting story of Ictineo II on Wikipedia.  Another smaller submarine built by Narcus Monturiol i Estarriol is on display at the Barcelona Maritime Museum

Barcelona Cruise Port Terminal: Tourist transport, dock facilities

Page Content

This page answers almost all the questions we get from travelers about the Barcelona cruise port. Issues such as moving from the port to the city center and airport, car and bus parking, housing near the port, luggage storage, car rental and the location of terminals relative to the city center are covered. Next, we also hung a detailed map of the cruise port area.

Cruise ship terminal next to Port Vell in Barcelona

Where are the cruise terminals located?

The port is located at the beginning of La Rambla (La Rambla – the most famous boulevard in Barcelona, also known as Las Ramblas), which runs through the very center of the city.

Names and locations of cruise terminals

The port of Barcelona has 9 terminals, 7 of which are cruise terminals. They can be classified into three different regions.

Adossat Waterfront Terminals

Terminals A, B, C and D and E are located on the Adossat Waterfront and furthest from the city centre. Terminal D is also known as Palacruceros (Palacruceros).

International Trade Center terminals

There are 2 terminals at the World Trade Center (WTC) Pier called the North and South Terminals.

Sant Bertrand Terminal, also located near the WTC (see map of cruise terminals). From this terminal there are usually ferries from Barcelona to the Balearic Islands.

There is a hop on hop off sightseeing bus stop near the International Trade Center. This is very convenient if you are going to explore the city, as the International Trade Center is located right next to the cruise terminals, just a few steps from the landing site.

Maremagnum Port Vell

There is one small terminal at Maremagnum Port Vell, but it is mostly used by large ships and not by cruise ships.

Ways to travel between the city center and the cruise port.

Shuttle transfer

Personal transfer

You can book a personal transfer via the Internet, after that you will need to print and take with you a voucher confirming the reservation. Upon arrival at the port, your driver will be waiting for you at the disembarkation point with your name on a sign. From there you will be taken directly to your desired location. When a cruise ship comes into port, several thousand people disembark, just like you, in need of transport to the city. By choosing a private transfer, you will be able to avoid queues and be at your hotel in the shortest possible time. This service is a little more expensive than other transport widows, but if you don’t have much time to explore the city, or you just want to avoid certain hassles when you arrive in a foreign city and have help with your bags, then you should think about a personal transfer.

Click to book private transport to/from Barcelona Cruise Port

Hiking

The nearest cruise terminal from La Rambla is a 15 minute walk. However, there are 7 terminals in total, and if you arrive at one of those that are far from La Rambla, you will need to take a shuttle bus called the cruise bus (more below) that will take you to Mirador de Colom (Christopher Columbus Monument).

If you arrived at one of the cruise terminals on the Adossat embankment – terminals A, B, C or D, then walking to the center is not recommended, since it is a long way from the terminal to the Columbus monument located at the beginning of La Rambla (about 2 kilometers ). Walking with your luggage in the midday heat will not seem pleasant. If you arrive at the North, East or South terminal (near the International Trade Center), then the center can be reached on foot, although it will still take a good 15 minutes to get to La Rambla.

Cruise shuttle bus that runs through the Barcelona cruise port.

Cruise Port Bus Service Cruise bus, locally known as the “Blue Bus”

The cruise bus runs through all cruise port terminals to the Christopher Columbus Monument and back. This bus is also specially adapted for wheelchair users.

Tickets for cruise bus

Cruise bus tickets can only be purchased with cash on the bus itself. Tickets can also be booked online in advance. Follow the link below to book your tickets in advance.

You can walk to La Rambla from Columbus monument in about 1 minute, and the nearest station is Metro is Drassanes (Green Line, L3), which is only 5 minutes walk from the monument. The location of the Drassanes metro station can be found on our Barcelona metro map.

Once in the subway, you can easily get anywhere in the city. We wrote more about the cruise port shuttle if you need more information.

Cruise bus ticket prices
Single ticket: €3.00
Return ticket: €4.50

T-Casual is not valid on this bus. The Blue Bus shuttle does not have a strict timetable. However, its movement is coordinated with the arrival and departure of cruise ships. This bus departs from the monument to Christopher Columbus on average every 30 minutes.

There are several stops for the hop on hop off tour bus near the cruise terminals.

There are 2 stops for the Barcelona City Tour hop on hop off tour bus near the cruise terminals.

Many cruise ship travelers usually have little time to explore the city and prefer to use the sightseeing buses to see all of Barcelona’s main sights. This is probably the fastest and most convenient way to see the city, especially when there is very little time for it.

There are 2 stops for the sightseeing bus near the cruise terminals, which is very convenient for tourists who want to use this bus. One stop is near the International Trade Center and the other is near the Christopher Columbus Monument. Tickets for the sightseeing bus can be bought online in advance and then just take the printed voucher with you. We have written a detailed article about this tour bus, including a description of the exact location of the stops in relation to the cruise port. You can find out more about this at the following link.

Click here to find out more about the hop on hop off tourist bus that stops next to the Barcelona Cruise Port terminals

Taxi

Another option is to take a taxi from the port to the city center, which is very inexpensive and fast (usually less than 10 minutes).

Taxi fare: €20.00

Did you know that you cannot take your luggage on the Hop on Hop off tourist bus. Therefore, before you get on the tourist bus, you need to check in your luggage at the luggage room. Follow the link below to find and book your luggage storage in the city center near a tourist attraction.

Find a luggage storage facility to store your luggage

How to get from the port to the airport

The page on transport from Barcelona airport describes how to use public transport between the airport and the city centre. You have to walk from the center to the port. There is no public transport from the airport to the seaport, so you will either have to travel with several transfers on different modes of transport, or be prepared for a short walk.

To Barcelona airport by city bus

If you want to use city buses, you need to know the following:

Take the Aerobus to Plaça de Catalunya and then change to the metro to Drassanes station. From there, walk to the Columbus Monument and take the cruise bus to the cruise terminals. As you can see, there is no direct public transport route from the airport to the cruise terminals.

From the cruise port to Barcelona airport by taxi

One of the options to get from the port to the airport or back is a taxi. Taxis are fast, readily available and inexpensive. The trip should take about 25 minutes. There are no additional baggage fees. Plus, you will have to pay two more additional fees. This is landing at the airport and disembarking at the cruise terminals, or vice versa. For exact fares and additional fees, visit the Barcelona City Taxi Association website for up-to-date Barcelona taxi fares.

Taxi fare: €39.00

Personal transfer from cruise port to Barcelona airport

If you wish, you can also arrange a private transfer from the cruise port to Barcelona airport (or vice versa). This is convenient because you can order such a transfer in advance, and you do not have to stand in lines. This is a personal service, so you will feel more confident in an unfamiliar city.

Continue on C-32B to Barcelona Airport

Then follow C-31 towards C-32B

Take the B-10 from Passeig de Josep Carner

It is important to note that some tourists asked taxi drivers to go to terminal A” (or B, or C, etc. ), and the taxi driver did not understand and instead took them to the airport terminal. Make sure you specifically indicated the Cruise Terminal, otherwise you may end up at the airport!”

Cheap parking near cruise port

The terminals themselves have short-term car parks that can be used to board or unload ships.

If you want to leave your car not just for a couple of hours, but for several days or weeks, there are suitable car parks near the cruise port.

Click the link below to find out more about car parks that can accommodate your various parking needs when you take your car on a cruise.

The cruise port has a luggage delivery service. However, there are no automatic lockers. We recommend that you read the following articles, which describe the different luggage storage services at the port.

We recommend that you read our article on luggage storage in Barcelona, which explains where to leave your luggage if you do not want to use the luggage transfer service.

Overview of the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel

We have also prepared an article about hotels within walking distance of the cruise port.

Columbus Monument (Mirador de Colon)

The Monument to Christopher Columbus (Colon) marks the southern end of the Ramblas. The Columbus Monument is a useful landmark to help you find your bearings as you make your way to La Rambla from your cruise ship. The street depicted in the center is Port Vell, and behind it is the promenade that runs along the marina and leads to the Barcelona Aquarium. The photo was taken in October and the sun is still shining!

      New York / USA

World famous city New York , the largest city in the United States, with a population of 8.5 million people, and with suburbs – 20.6 million. New York is the largest economic, political, scientific, as well as the cultural center of the United States. It is rightly called the “Main Gate” in the United States, and the world’s largest airport, John F. Kennedy, is also located here. One of the distinguishing features of the city is the diversity of the national composition of the population, the city is also called “the United States in miniature”.

New York captures the essence of this country: fashion, religion, goods, pace and rhythm of American life. The headquarters of the United Nations is also located here. New York also has many universities, an academy of sciences, and many other scientific institutions.
