Flight from Barcelona to USA COVID-19 test requirements
Page Content
Last updated: 20 Jul 2022
This page provides measures for COVID-19at Barcelona Airport for departing flights and CDC COVID-19 guidance for flying from Barcelona Airport to the United States.
US travel COVID tests recommended by CDC but no longer required
As of June 12, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated the COVID requirements for flights to the United States. You are no longer required to present a negative COVID test or proof of recovery to travel to the US. You can check this information on the CDC’s International Travel page, where you will also find a link to the full CDC Termination document effective June 12, 2022. A repeal document is simply a document that formally cancels the mandatory testing requirements that existed before.
However, it is important to understand that the CDC continues to recommend pre- and post-travel testing and continued COVID vaccinations. Although testing for COVID-19 before traveling to the US is no longer mandatory, the CDC recommends that you get tested for COVID before and after your trip so that if you test positive, you can take the reasonable precautions necessary to reduce your risk of transmitting COVID to others as long as you’re contagious.
You will see the CDC’s recommendation on their repeal document, effective June 12, 2022, at the bottom of page 3.
The CDC also recommends getting tested if you’ve been in contact with someone with COVID.
While negative COVID tests or documentation of recovery is no longer required to fly to the US, the CDC still recommends that you not travel if you have COVID symptoms and wait a full 10 days after symptoms start. or after the first positive COVID test before travel. You can check this information on the CDC International Travel page. If you suspect you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, or have symptoms of COVID-19, you have a moral responsibility to ensure that others who may be vulnerable to the disease are protected, even if testing for COVID is not a requirement.
It’s also worth doing your own independent review to make sure the particular US state you’re flying to has no specific COVID-19 testing requirements that go beyond federal CDC guidelines.
Therefore, the following information is for those travelers who may wish to be tested for COVID in accordance with CDC guidelines. However, we emphasize once again that at the time of writing, COVID testing for travel to the United States is not mandatory.
On this page you will also find links to official United States websites where you can check the following:

- COVID-19 travel documents required to enter the US from Barcelona

COVID-19 travel documents required to fly from Barcelona airport to USA
You do not need to complete any COVID-related forms to present to the Spanish authorities when leaving Spain.
If you decide to take an antigen or PCR test, it is worth getting tested in the city center, and not at the airport, so that you have enough time before departure. It also means you won’t have to arrive too early at Barcelona airport and you won’t be in a hurry to get your test certificates on time. Sometimes there is a minor error or detail in a Fit To Fly certificate that needs to be corrected and you need enough time to verify that your certificate details are 100% correct.
