Gucci – Perfume Houses – Perfume
The Gucci fashion house was founded by Guccio Gucci (Italian Guccio Gucci, 1881-1953) in Florence in 1904. He opened a workshop that made saddles, riding boots and suitcases.
Some time later, Gucci opened a store in Florence selling leather goods, mainly bags and suitcases. Business developed incredibly rapidly, and soon Gucci left for New York, changing his boutique in Florence to a store in New York, on Fifth Avenue. The Gucci name quickly became popular. Grace Kelly, Nancy and Ronald Reagan, Sophia Loren, Sydney Poitier were happy to purchase shoes, bags, scarves from the novice fashion designer.
After the death of Guccio in 1953, the business he founded passed to his sons Aldo and Rodolfo. Aldo moved from Italy to the United States, where he expanded his business by opening stores in New York, Paris, and London, and then, in the late 1960s, in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Seoul.
At this time, the modern company logo appears – intertwined letters GG.
Aldo Gucci expanded the company’s interests by entering into an agreement with American Motors: the 1972 Hornet, equipped with a Sportabout van, was one of the first American cars to be produced in a special package created by a fashion designer. The interior was upholstered in beige fabric with green and red stripes with Gucci logos, and the body color was specially chosen according to the design decision.
In 1977, Aldo appointed his son Paolo Vice President and General Manager of Gucci Shops Inc and Gucci Parfums’ American fragrance division.
In 1978, Paolo, who wanted to modernize and expand production, was suspended from work in the Italian division, because. Rodolfo wanted to keep the exclusive production of “handmade” quality, which led to an open conflict between uncle and nephew.
In the late 1970s, a series of bad business decisions and family squabbles nearly brought the company to bankruptcy.
In 1979, Aldo, wanting to support the Gucci Parfums perfume line, launched the Gucci Accessories Collection, which included small accessories such as cosmetic bags, pens and lighters, which cost much less than the main accessories produced by the company.
In 1983, after the death of Rodolfo, his share in the company passed to his son Maurizio, which resulted in another conflict between the two branches of the family.
Maurizio, together with Paolo, Aldo’s son, decided to increase his influence on the company’s Board of Directors and set up Gucci Licensing in Holland for this purpose.
In 1987, Paolo reportedly sold his stake in the family business to Investcorp. Soon Paolo died unexpectedly.
After the rest of the family left the company, for the first time in years, only one person was at the helm of the Gucci company. Maurizio put an end to the family feuds that were tearing the company apart and decided to seek out other talent for the future of Gucci.
In 1989, Maurizio Gucci convinces Dawn Mello, famous for resurrecting the popularity of New York’s Bergdorf Goodman at 1970s, join the restructured Gucci Group as executive vice president and creative director. Gucci America was led by lawyer Domenico de Sol, who helped Maurizio restructure the company from 1987-1989.
Fashion designers Geoffrey Bean and Calvin Klein worked for the Gucci house, in 1990, at the insistence of Melo, a young and practically unknown Tom Ford was invited to create collections of women’s clothing.
The early 1990s were the worst years in the company’s history. Thanks to the actions of Maurizio, the pace of sales of accessories, which previously brought only $ 110 million annually in the United States, decreased. The company suffered losses and was on the verge of bankruptcy, all this caused discontent among the management of Gucci America and the shareholders of Investcorp – a few years later, by majority vote, the managers removed Maurizio from the leadership. On August 19At 93, he was forced to sell his stake in the family business to Investcorp.
Less than a year after Maurizio left, Dawn Mello returned to Bergdorf Goodman. Tom Ford, who became creative director, wanted to create a completely new style for the company, and Domenico de Sol, now president and CEO of Gucci Group NV, supported him in this.
On March 27, 1997, Maurizio was shot dead by an assassin hired by his ex-wife Patricia.
K 19In 1998, the company regained its lost positions and began to produce luxury goods again. The assortment included the highest quality watches, cosmetics, perfumes and jewelry. De Sole and Ford’s plans were grandiose – to turn the company into one of the best pillars of the fashion world.
However, in April 2004, Tom Ford and Domenico de Sole leave the Gucci Group. They leave at their own will and by mutual consent of the parties.
After Ford’s departure, the Gucci Group retained designers to continue the success of the company’s flagship label, Alessandra Facchinetti and Frida Giannini, who worked under Ford’s creative direction. Facchinetti rose to Womenswear Creative Director in 2004 and designed for two seasons before leaving the company following a management conflict. Ray served as creative director of menswear for three years until his resignation in January 2006. 32-year-old Giannini, who was previously responsible for the development of men’s and women’s accessories, is currently the creative director of the entire brand. The Giannini spring 2006 collection was lauded for its color scheme and energy for the first time since Ford’s 19 season95 years of recreating the company’s ready-to-wear hype. Giannini’s collections have since moved away from Ford’s erotic imagery of the 1990s.
In January 2015, Giannini’s sudden resignation as creative director became known (a month ahead of the contract deadline and a week before the 2015 menswear show). She was succeeded by Alessandro Michele.
The House of Gucci is now owned by the French conglomerate Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR), which is the second largest luxury goods company after LVMH.
The Gucci Group is steadily expanding beyond the Gucci brand through a series of mergers. By 2004, the Gucci Group owns all or part of the shares of the following companies and brands:
Clothing
Gucci (100% ownership and 100% watch production)
Yves Saint Laurent (100%, also 100% perfumery and watches)
Sergio Rossi (100%)
Bottega Veneta (78.5%)
Alexander McQueen (51%, also perfume 100%)
Stella McCartney (50%, also perfume 100%)

World offices and The company’s headquarters are located in Florence, Paris, London and New York. The headquarters of PPR is in Paris.
Gucci is represented by 49 fragrances. The earliest fragrance of this brand was created in 1974 and the last in 2015.
Gucci fragrances were created in collaboration with perfumers Michel Almairac, Dominique Ropion, Daniela (Roche) Andrier, Antoine Maisondieu, Guy Robert, Karine Dubreuil, Maurice Roucel, Firmenich, Ilias Ermenidis, Givaudan, Jacques Huclier and Lorenzo Villoresi.
Gucci fragrances combine lightness, perfection and inexplicable charm that makes you return to your favorite perfume compositions again and again. You can talk for a long time about the large assortment and each individual perfume by Gucci, but any explanation will fade next to the true essence of these fragrances, which embody the spirit of eroticism and the power of all-consuming passion.

Brand history: Gucci – Podium.IM
One of the most counterfeited brands in the world is Gucci, which has undergone many changes, transformations and tried various directions throughout its history.
The history of Gucci goes back to the beginning of the 20th century, when the young Guccio Gucci, at the age of 23, decided to follow the example of his father, who had his own shop (he sold straw hats) and open a small business for the manufacture and sale of horse teams. To make things go better, Guccio gave his workshop the loud and promising name “Gucci House”, but this did not help the unprofitable business and the young man had to give up his big dream for a while. The failure in business quarreled between the young man and his father, and he decided to leave his father’s house, going to London. There, Guccio, without showing ambition, got a job as a porter at the Savoy Hotel, where for 10 years he also tried himself as an elevator operator and bellhop.
During his work, Guccio noticed how much attention the wealthy visitors of the hotel pay to the appearance of their luggage, material and design. It was this that prompted the young man to return to his homeland in Italy. By that time he had already married. With the accumulated 30 thousand lire, Guccio decides to reopen the workshop, which soon grows into a store. The main directions of the store are suitcases, clothes for jockeys and again horse harness. Despite the fact that Guccio tried to focus on suitcases and travel bags, the suits for riders were the most popular. Quite quickly, the brand captured the whole of Europe. all products of the young brand were of high quality, exquisite tailoring and the best materials, and among riders it was considered good form to perform in clothes from Gucci.
In 1932, Guccio produced loafers that were very popular. One of the first models is still kept in the Museum of Fashion History.
Six children grew up in the family, four of whom began to actively help their father in the work and development of the company. Aldo, the eldest son of Guccio, played a big role in the development of the brand, who at a fairly young age came up with a corporate logo (1933), consisting of the first two letters of the name and surname of the father of the family.
In 1937 Gucci opens its first factory, which specializes in gloves, suitcases and handbags. A year later, the brand opens its first boutique in Rome, on one of the central streets of Via Condotti. This allowed the company to acquire many new customers, which consisted mainly of golden youth. And, despite the military trends, in a few years the brand’s stores captured all of Italy. Aldo once again played an important role in the development of the company and the expansion of product groups. He developed and marketed bags with bamboo handles, which were extremely relevant in wartime both for the company (leather became a huge shortage) and for the population (a few highlights in the difficult war years). Aldo also decided to adorn men and women by launching silk ties, scarves and wristwatches.
Another recognizable symbol of the brand – striped braid, which adorns both clothes and accessories of the company, appeared in the early 50s.
Despite the difficult wartime, Aldo decided to conquer the European beauty of American buyers and did not lose. Ten years later, in 1953, the first Gucci store was opened in New York on Fifth Avenue. Unfortunately, this year was also fatal for the brand. Guccio Gucci is dead. According to the will, the business passed in equal shares to Aldo and Rodolfo.
While Aldo was engaged in the development of the family business, another son, Rodolfo, decided to conquer the world of art and creativity, becoming a fairly sought-after film actor. Ten years of filming with the most famous and loved by millions of actors, friendship with world celebrities, positively influenced the development of the Gucci brand. After returning to the family business, Rodolfo knew exactly what the richest and most famous wanted. Gucci’s clients were those whose names adorned posters at the biggest cinemas around the world. And what the stars wear is the people’s desire. Film actors have made the Gucci brand one of the most popular and in demand in the world market. Jacqueline Kennedy favored Gucci handbags, while Audrey Hepburn loved the brand’s silk scarves and even used them as movie props. By the way, the famous Gucci scarf became the main gift for every guest who came to the wedding of the Prince of Monaco and actress Grace Kelly. And all because in a short period the brand became the main supplier of the royal court.
The next ten years the company had a stable business, rapidly expanding the number of its stores in the US, Europe and the East. So by the end of the 60s, Gucci products could be purchased in the official stores of the largest fashion capitals – Paris, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong and London. This period is considered to be the most successful in the history of the company until 1990. It was in the 60s that the company developed a collection of women’s clothing, which includes the famous moccasins with metal inserts. Women’s models have had great success at Milan Fashion Weeks.
Gucci was the first designer brand to collaborate with an automobile concern, resulting in American Motors launching the Hornet with a van in 1972. The company logos were displayed inside a beige interior with a red and green stripe, and the body was developed according to design projects.
In 1977, Aldo’s son, Paolo, became Vice President of Gucci Shops Inc and Gucci Parfums. His sphere of influence extended to those factories that were outside of Italy, because. The Italian part of the brand was managed by Rodolfo, who insisted on leaving exclusive hand-tailoring in his production. Therefore, when Paolo proposed to modernize all the production of the brand, he had serious disagreements with his uncle. The conflict within the family affected the entire production of the brand. Constant gossip and family squabbles, which distracted all family members, led to a sharp decline in sales and production.
To save the business, in 1979 Aldo decided to focus on the perfume line, as well as on the production of inexpensive, small, in-demand goods – lighters, pens, cosmetic bags and other small things that brought a steady income. But this negatively affected the rating of the company. Expensive products were no longer in demand and the assortment of stores changed, becoming more ordinary and cheaper, although many believe that the brand’s decline occurred in the opposite direction. After the appearance of cheap goods on the shelves of the store, wealthy customers switched to more presentable competitors and stopped buying the brand’s elite goods.
Despite the troubles, the company develops and produces a full-fledged women’s clothing collection, which revives the brand’s popularity for a short time.
After Paolo’s desire to take over the entire business and change everything to his initials instead of his grandfather’s name, Aldo fired his son from the company. For such a step on the part of his father, Paolo told the police about all the financial fraud of the brand, for which Aldo was imprisoned and ordered to pay an impressive fine.
B 19Rodolfo died in 83, leaving all his inheritance to his son Maurizio. The young man, accustomed to family values from childhood, was able to reconcile with his cousin and begin to establish a family business. But he didn’t do it very well. During his leadership, several disastrous decisions were made that led the brand to complete decline. The biggest failure was the sale of permission to use the company’s brand label to small firms, among which there were many Asian companies.
B 19In 87, Investcorp bought Paolo’s part of the company’s shares from Paolo, and six years later, Maurizio also sold his part, who managed to turn the company’s products into low-quality products with a low sales rating.
In 1989, at the suggestion of Maurizio, Dawn Melo took over as creative director and vice president of the Gucci Group, while Domenico de Sol took over the American division of Gucci America.
In the late 80s, the brand had two designers Calvin Klein and Geoffrey Bean at once, but despite such strong and professional personalities, this did not save Gucci.
In 1990, at the insistence of Melo, a young but promising fashion designer – Tom Ford became the designer of the brand. His efforts did not immediately bring the company its former glory and rise in sales, because. Maurizio, who still had a powerful say in Gucci, constantly intervened in the work process, exacerbating his already unstable position on the board of directors. As a result, Investcorp shareholders removed Maurizio from work and he was forced to sell his shares to the concern.
So in 1993 the Gucci family lost their family business.
But the Gucci brand itself only benefited from this.
A year later, in 1994, Dawn Mello left her post, and her place was taken by T th Ford , whose plans were to completely change the concept of the brand. His first collection as the brand’s chief designer changed the way fashion industry fans look at Gucci products. Strict, stylish and concise dresses, reminiscent of silent film models, stunned all fans of the fashion market. Now it was an elite, sought-after and one of the best-selling brands.
In 1995, Domenico de Sole took the position of creative director – top-level marketer, who, together with Tom, was able to raise the level of the brand to the luxury class.
In the same year Maurizio’s name flashed again in the news, but now among the obituaries. His last wife confessed to the contract killing of her husband.
For several years, the Gucci brand has become the most sought after and popular among all fans of the fashion industry. Ford’s collections conquer the world’s catwalks, and he himself becomes a recognized designer in the United States.
The rapid expansion and improvement of the brand’s well-being helps it to buy up smaller productions in the areas of interest. Among the companies that joined the Gucci Group in 1999 are the jewelry brand Boucheron and the shoe company Sergio Rossi. It was in this year that the company entered the Guinness Book of Records as a brand that became record-breaking popular and in demand in the shortest possible time.
Despite the fact that by 2004 the Gucci Group owns such high-profile designer brands as Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and others, it is acquired by Pinault Printemps Redoute (PPR). But two leading specialists of the Gucci Group – Tom Ford and Domenico de Sole – refuse to cooperate with the new management and leave the brand.
Tom Ford’s latest collection for Gucci was sold out on pre-orders right after the presentation. Also in Gucci stores there was a crazy demand for all products made by Tom Ford .
After Ford left, Alessandra Facchinetti took his place, having worked for the company for two years and managed to release two collections. And again, the reason for the departure of the designer is a disagreement with the leadership. But her latest collection was extremely positively received by fans of the brand, because. distinguished by brightness, creative models and comfortable wear.
In 2006, Frida Giannini, who is friends with many celebrities and likes to attend social events, takes over as chief designer. Such a media person quickly attracts the most famous customers to the brand. In 2008, she created a collection of costumes for Lenny Kravitz, who went on a world tour.
In 2009 the brand’s head office moves to Rome.
In 2011, Gucci again enters into a collaboration with the automobile concern Fiat and releases an anniversary car model dedicated to two dates – the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy and 90th anniversary of the Gucci brand.
Since 2012, the brand has been involved in charity work, creating limited collections of clothes and transferring part of the proceeds to charitable foundations.
In 2013, the company’s largest men’s boutique was opened in Milan.
2014 became rich in various events taking place in the brand. Among the main news – Charlotte Casiraghi, heir to the throne of Monaco, has become the face of the brand. Gucci has launched a new technological project – the creation of a virtual 8-language museum. And at the end of the year, Frida Giannini left the post of designer and Alessandro Michele took her place.
Michele decided to dedicate his first work to all the leading cultural and fashion capitals, releasing a limited collection of themed bags.
