Weather in Spain

Spain is a sunny country; the sun shines here about 3000 hours a year . The climate is generally mild, but there are differences between seasons and regions. In spring and autumn, the temperatures are most pleasant, and you can enjoy the outdoor life all day long. The highest temperature is observed in July and August: these months are dry and hot throughout the country. The lowest temperature is usually observed in January and February, when it rains most often, especially in the north of Spain.- These things must be in your luggage:- Sunglasses , which will come in handy at any time of the year. – Comfortable shoes , especially if you are going to visit museums, take walks in the city or go to nature. – Backpack , which should be comfortable and light; in it you can store sunglasses, sunscreen, a bottle of water or a small umbrella in case of rain.

Spring: from the end of March to the end of June

Many say that this is the perfect time of the year in Spain. The sun is almost always shining and the number of hours of sunshine is increasing day by day, so you can enjoy the outdoor life: walks, afternoons on the cafe terraces, nature excursions . .. You will need short-sleeved clothes or long-sleeved models made of thin fabric, as well as jeans and dresses in bright colors. Accessories such as sunglasses, brim hat, lightweight scarf or sandals are also useful during the trip, especially in the morning or in the afternoon when the weather is sunny. A traditional Spanish proverb, which roughly means “April is a thousand rains”, reminds you to take a small umbrella with you in case of a possible downpour, usually a very short one.

Summer: late June to late September

July, August and September are the hottest and driest months. Daytime temperatures usually exceed 30 ºC. In regions far from the coast and in the south of the country, nighttime temperatures can exceed 20 ºC. The climate in the north of the country is milder, with lower temperatures and rainfall in regions such as Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria. In the summer in Spain, you will definitely need a swimsuit or swimming trunks to enjoy your beach holiday. It is recommended to wear light-colored clothing. In this regard, the traditional style of Ibiza – white clothes – is widely known. Airy and delicate fabrics such as linen or cotton work well for this season. As for shoes, sandals, sandals or flip-flops are usually worn in summer. Shorts, tank tops, sleeveless or tank tops are also often used.

Autumn: end of September to end of December

The temperature begins to drop, especially early in the morning and in the evening. You will need warmer clothing: a jacket, blazer or jacket, and a light scarf. However, you can still enjoy sunny days here at this time of the year, especially in the part of Spain south of Madrid. Many people recommend wearing several layers of lighter clothing instead of heavy or very warm coats. This will allow you to easily adapt to the temperature at different times of the day. For example, as evening falls, the feeling of coldness may increase in mountainous areas or on the coast due to humidity. Almost every autumn there are thunderstorms with a sharp cooling.

Winter: late December to late March

These are the coldest months. Although Spain is not a very rainy country, we recommend that you take an umbrella with you. In the north, it often rains during these months. In the rest of the country, it can also rain for several days. In such weather, a raincoat may come in handy. We recommend bringing warm clothing and accessories such as a scarf and gloves. In most parts of the country, you won’t need rubber boots; it is usually recommended to wear comfortable shoes (possibly with a higher top) and warm socks. You’ll also want to wear warm fabrics such as wool, flannel or fleece, thermal underwear, tights, and winter coats, especially in rural areas. However, if you’re heading to the Canary Islands, the winters there aren’t as cold and all you need is a thin coat or jacket.
