Barcelona Bicycle Rental – Barcelona Happyinspain Travel Guide
Bicycling is our favorite mode of transport, it does not pollute the environment and helps us stay in shape.
It’s great to explore Barcelona by cycling. The city is perfectly equipped for this – sloping slopes for exiting the road from the sidewalks, iron handrails for parking on almost every corner, a special “carril bici” – a separate bike path covering almost the entire city. On this path, you can drive calmly or at full speed, as neither cars nor pedestrians interfere with you. But still, do not forget about traffic lights, no one has canceled the rules of the road for cyclists. You can be fined €100 for crossing a red traffic light. You can’t ride in headphones with a player either. The arrow on the bike path indicates the direction of movement, for example, on Diagonal Avenue or Gran Via Street, you need to go parallel to the movement of cars, otherwise you will find yourself against the general flow of cyclists. When you are driving down the street among public transport, don’t worry, everyone here is used to the abundance of mopeds and bicycles.
It doesn’t rain much in Barcelona, it’s almost always sunny and there is no snow. Imagine – a bright blue sky without a single cloud, palm trees, the sea on the horizon, you pedal smoothly, and at every turn a new amazing picture of the cityscape emerges, and, of course, numerous photo stops, delicious and refreshing pauses on the cafe terraces, shopping for pleasant little things as a keepsake…
To protect yourself from trouble, we advise you to park the bike in your line of sight, not to leave it far from you for a long time, even if it is locked, because this will not stop sneaky thieves with wire cutters. Choose – either a reliable castle, or keep your iron horse under supervision.
Walking around the city, you will surely see the parking lots of red and white “Bicing” bicycles, they are everywhere. Unfortunately, this joy is only for residents, for those who have permanent residence, in order to receive a card for using the city’s bicycle network, you need to have a local residence permit.
But don’t worry, renting a bike is a piece of cake and costs a penny. The average rental price for a day is 10 €, and if you want to ride longer, then in some rentals you can agree not to return it for the night and keep it at your place. Many rental centers organize group thematic tours, unfortunately, always according to the same type of templates. We offer you our own programs that go beyond the standard routes. You can also model any of the options according to your own wishes.
Rent Green Bikes are green bikes that are carefully maintained and constantly repaired. You will be pleased to drive them around Barcelona. Rental costs 10 € per day or 1.50 € per hour. Your passport, driver’s license or 150 € will serve as a deposit. In the presence of children’s bicycles and baskets for the very young. Security locks included. The rental is open from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 20-00. You can rent for a day, only then park them overnight in a safe place.

Barcelona Bicycle Rental – FUNBCN
Ride around Barcelona like a breeze!
Since 2007, Barcelona has been actively developing its cycling infrastructure. First, the authorities did this to reduce the number of cars and reduce traffic jams, and then tourists from all over the world began to use bicycles to see the city. Barcelona is officially recognized as the most bike-friendly city in the Mediterranean. Bicycles in Barcelona are as important as paella and sangria. With over 200 kilometers of cycle paths built in the city, more than 20,000 parking spaces created, and inexpensive bike rental points open, it’s a great idea to explore Barcelona on bikes.

TOP 5 reasons to explore Barcelona by bike:
1. You can visit different parts of the city and attractions in one day. Each of them has its own character, special. And if you walk or wait for public transport, you will have much less time than if you see the sights from behind the wheel. For example, you need to climb to the top of Mount Tibidabo by train, then by tram, and then by funicular. But if you are hardy enough, you can drive there on two wheels. But then what a descent!
2. Combine sightseeing with sports. An important point for those who take care of themselves, but on vacation they cannot go to the gym. Cycling is a great way to enjoy the city and burn calories at the same time.
3. Safety of luggage. If you are in Barcelona for a short time, then walking with luggage is hard and tiring. A great alternative is to leave your luggage in the same place where you rent a bike. After all, for example, RentabikeBCN bike rental points also have left-luggage offices. So you can ride light and not worry about luggage.
4. Comfort. Beautiful sunny weather, picturesque landscapes, excellent bike paths. There are no potholes, puddles or nervous drivers waiting for you when driving in Barcelona. Your ride will be comfortable and enjoyable.
5. Bicycle tours. A bike tour is an unusual excursion. In addition to renting bikes in Barcelona, you can also book a bike tour. If this is your first time in Barcelona, then going on a guided bike tour is educational, interesting and healthy.
Popular cycle routes
Of course, you can create your own route and go wherever your heart desires. But here are the most popular cycling destinations in Barcelona, and you can choose one of them according to your preference.
Old Town Route (Ruta Ciutat Vella)
A tour of Barcelona’s old town will take you through parks, monuments and scenic spots from the medieval era. You can enjoy the view of Barceloneta Beach and the Old Port, as well as see the monument to Columbus.
First drive from Plaza Catalunya to the Cathedral, then cross the El Born district, then drive through the beautiful Ciutadella Park (Parc de la Ciutadella), be sure to stop to admire the park fountain and lake. After leaving the park, drive to admire the Arc de Triomphe, and then go either to Barceloneta beach or up to the Sagrada Familia.
Beach-city route
If you want to combine the city route and the beach, you will like this route. Start your trip at Olympia Port, cruise along the coastline and see Barcelona beaches like Nova Icaria and Bogatell. Then turn away from the sea, and for example, along the Carrer de la Llacuna, start climbing up until you see the city water canal building, or just a glass “cucumber”, the Torre Agbar tower, then explore the Poblenou graffiti and hipster area and don’t forget to look at the unique regional cemetery Cementiri de L’Est.
Eixample Route
Walking through one of the city’s most famous districts is a great way to see some of Barcelona’s most famous architectural masterpieces. Almost synonymous with Barcelona architecture is Antonio Gaudí – start your route at his stunning Sagrada Familia, climb up Avinguda de Gaudí and visit the incredible building of the Hospital of the Holy Cross and Saint Paul (Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau), designed by Luis Domenique-i-Montaner. Well, then rush down the Carrer de Corsega to the very Passeig de Grácia to admire Casa Batlló and Casa Mila (better known as La Pedrera).
Montjuic route
The Montjuic mountain is a great place to admire the city from above. From Plaza de España, head to Montjuïc Castle for stunning views of all of Barcelona. Well, then a pleasant descent awaits you – through Carretera de Montjuïc, until you get to Paseo de Miramar and Plaça de Colón, where the statue of Columbus is located.

Rules for cycling
We offer 10 rules, official and unofficial, that you should follow while cycling in Barcelona.
1. Most often, pedestrians have the right of way, so keep an adequate distance from those walking. Even if they cross the bike path in the wrong place, you still better stop.
2. There are also speed limits for cyclists. On the bike paths in Barcelona you need to go no faster than 20 km/h.
3. Beware of cars if you are driving on the road; you never know how much attention drivers pay to you. Stay in the lane closest to the sidewalk and follow the traffic.
4. Make sure other road users know if you are turning, indicate the direction of the turn with your hand.
5. If you are stopping anywhere, park your bike and secure it well by running a chain over the wheels. It is forbidden to tie a bike to trees, benches, traffic lights or trash cans, etc., so look for a dedicated bike rack.
6. If you are cycling in a pedestrian zone, such as a sidewalk, keep your speed below 10 km/h.
7. If you are in a busy area, it is best to get off your bike and walk around the area until you are able to move around again. There is nothing more annoying than someone trying to drive through a crowd.
8. Pay attention to traffic lights when driving on roads. They are easy to overlook when you travel, but they certainly apply to bikes as well. So keep an eye on them – in fact, it’s for your own good. For running a red light on a bicycle in Barcelona, you are fined 200 euros.
9. It is forbidden to ride a bicycle on sidewalks if their width does not exceed 5 meters. Please respect pedestrians.
10. Make yourself visible at night. This is important for your own safety and for other road users. When you cycle in Barcelona at night, you must have a red light in the back and a white light in front.
And finally, a tip that can be attributed to other cities. It is forbidden to ride a bicycle while listening to music on headphones or talking on the phone.

How to rent a bike in Barcelona
The city boasts one of the first large-scale public bicycle rental systems in Europe. This is the Bicing system with more than 400 stations located throughout the city. The bad news is that the system is intended solely for use by residents of the city and is not available to travelers. What to do? Rent a bike in Barcelona from a trusted company.
Different companies have their own conditions, range of services, quality of bicycles. Having studied in practice all the pros and cons of existing rentals, we settled on the guys from RentabikeBCN, since they have:
– New bikes only. The bike park is updated before each season.
– The largest bike rental network in the city.
– Bicycle rental points are located near the main attractions (Sagrada Familia, Plaza de España, University metro station, Gothic Quarter, etc.)
– You will be answered and assisted in Russian, English, Spanish, French.
– Along with the bikes, you will be given helmets and locks for parking free of charge, and you will be instructed. It is very important to pay great attention to driving safety.
– Well, the icing on the cake – one of the lowest prices in the city. For example, you can ride a bike all day for only 10 euros.
Luggage storage can be used as an additional service at RentabikeBCN.
