In the major cities of Spain, parking is synonymous with headaches and neurosis. This is especially true of the historical and cultural center. Cities in ancient times were built in such a way that conquerors bursting on hefty horses, when trying to capture the Spaniards into slavery, would get stuck as quickly as possible in narrow streets, sandwiched between strong stone buildings. At this point, according to the plan, the natives were to quickly shoot them with crossbows, hanging from the upper floors of the houses, so that they could then calmly continue their daily business. The Middle Ages have passed, but the size of the streets remained. Although in the cities of Spain today many parking lots have been built, they are still constantly lacking.

Private car parks

For those who are not ready to pay money for parking, you can find a free place by circling for half an hour through the gates clogged with cars. But the simplest solution would be the spacious Saba Parking Lot (SABA). This is a network of modern parking lots, equipped with everything necessary for a self-respecting motorist. Everything is automatic there, red and green lights indicate the availability and location of vacant seats. They are well guarded and easy to get out of. Payment in modern parking lots is collected in machines located most often on the first underground floor. Robots accept both small change and bank cards, they are even able to change paper bills up to 20 euros. First, you take a ticket, which is not desirable to lose, go to “pay off” the debt, and then calmly exit through the barrier, which opens upon entering the ticket into the column slot at the exit.

Be careful with small private parking lots, which were opened under the “King Pea” out of greed and do not meet modern standards. There, in the narrow crooked corridors, you can peel off the paint from the doors and swear at what the world is worth. In such places, you will be forced to leave the car keys to a half-blind grandpa-watchman of about seventy. He will drive it in the cramped cellars of this barn as new applicants arrive, and sit with his greasy breeches in your snow-white chair.

Street (free) parking in Spain

Fortunately, there is street parking. It is indicated by blue stripes right on the pavement and the symbol “hand lowering a coin. ” If there is a free seat, then remember: payment in most major cities in Spain is from 8 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm. You need to buy a ticket at the parking machine and put it under the glass at the steering column for the controller to see.

The cost of an hour in street parking is about 3 euros (no more than three hours). The rest of the time and on Sunday you can stand for free and unlimited time. The exception is the vile antics of the administrations of small resort towns. The progressive part of humanity equates their actions with piracy. They came up with the idea of ​​taking payment for the “blue zones” including weekends, and even without any warning. Therefore, do not be surprised at the picture when the controller walks along the beach and issues fines to several hundred cars in a row. This is a planned provocation, but legally justified. Such a fine will cost up to forty euros, and the only way to avoid it is to go to the automatic parking payment column and see for yourself what is displayed on the scoreboard. If she is ready to take money from you and writes the current date on the check, then you have to pay.

If you see predatory yellow stripes painted on the roadway and signs prohibiting even stopping, do not risk it! If you go away for just five minutes, you will lose your car for a day or more. Loaders will rush at her like kites from around the corner and take her to a penal parking lot, moreover, to the very outskirts of the city. To return it, you will have to rush there, dropping everything and pay a fine of about 180 euros (and this if there were no other violations, otherwise the cost of the fine can increase exponentially to unpleasant amounts) or face an evacuation. Some small streets have free white parking. But it is unrealistic to find it free, there are always cars of residents from nearby houses.

Never leave anything that attracts attention in a parked car. You can break the glass and pull out valuables. Put everything in the trunk and lock it with a key, or better keep valuable and beautiful things outside the car.
