If you are one of those people who never know what to do on the weekend, Barcelona is the place for you. Catalan people do not like to stay indoors on their free days, which means they are constantly creating new and unique activities that take place on the streets. Palo Alto Market is one of those great ways to spend your weekend. Whether you crave food, good music or want to do a little shopping, ShBarcelona will show you there’s something for everyone at Palo Alto Market.

The Palo Alto Market is an event that was created by a group of young professionals who work at Fundación Palo Alto, a space with nineteen creative studios inside what used to be an old factory. It is in the garden of the Fundación itself, a lush and beautiful place, hidden in the middle of the Barrio of Sant Martì, that the market takes place. The Palo Alto Market, which happens at least once a month, is a new and trendy kind of street market where you can buy unique design, decoration and clothing items. After you finished shopping, you can grab a bite in one of the various food stands or food trucks, choosing between Italian, organic, gourmet or street food. There are usually interesting exhibits and activities going on during the two days of the market, like 100% Organic Design, an installation presenting furniture made entirely out of bread. The Palo Alto Market is not only for adults. There are rag dolls, wooden toys and various other items created by hand by artists presenting their work for sale. But that’s not all: there are also workshops where kids can roll up their sleeves and get to work, learning how to build paper flowers, beautiful cardboard boxes, etc.

The soundtrack to the Palo Alto Market is provided by local DJs and a couple of live music performances. The market happens once a month, opening at 11 a.m. and closing at 9 p.m. Adults pay 4€, kids under 12 years old go in for free. If you buy your tickets online, you get a discount on the entrance fee of one euro and you can skip the long line, especially when the weather is good, to get into the Palo Alto Market.

Check out the official Palo Alto Website to learn more information about the event. If you like the concept of the market, why not join it as a vendor in one of their future editions? Just send them an e-mail with your information, telling them what you would like to sell.

Have you been to Palo Alto Market yet? What did you like most?

Palo Alto Market: Creative Market in Barcelona

Every first weekend of the month, there’s nothing better than spending the whole day at the Palo Alto Creative Market in Poble Nou. Set inside a botanical garden, surrounded by beautiful plants and adorned with fabulous lights, you will be able to discover local designers and their unique pieces in fashion, jewelry and interior design – all with a cold drink in hand and live music in your ear – Barcelona at its best sight!

Concerts at the Aperol Spritz Club

Palo Alto’s live music program is always a highlight and includes mostly local artists. At the Aperol Spritz Club, a tent in the middle of a botanical garden, you can enjoy the best singers and songwriters or a late night DJ with good electronic beats. In addition, there are intimate tree-shaded concerts throughout the marketplace that highlight your creative experience, accompanied by smooth background music.

Gourmet Food Market

Let’s be honest, if there’s food, I’ll be there too. And the big food market in Palo Alto is reason enough to check it out! Especially after a hectic Friday night, the variety of food trucks will cure every hangover. Whether you’re looking for juicy burgers, cheesy nachos, Asian fusion or healthy vegan food, you’re sure to be satisfied. And if you have a sweet tooth, you will be happy to find homemade cakes, popsicles and fresh juices.

Designer Street Market

Last but not least, let’s not forget what the Palo Alto market is really about: creative design ! A diverse selection of local designers offers not only fashion and accessories, but also jewelry, art and interior design. You can buy streetwear from the open market, designer homeware from the Bohemia Gallery, premium products from the Concept Gallery, and handicrafts from the Design Gallery. All this in addition to workshops, drinks, food and music! Can a weekend in Barcelona get better?
