Guide to Asian Culture in NYC | The Asian Experience
There are around 50 countries in Asia and most, if not all, are represented within the five boroughs. The diversity within New York City’s Asian community is nearly endless: immigrants from China, India, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines and more have made the City their home, bringing distinctive foods, music and styles to NYC’s streets—not to mention hundreds of languages. Korean barbecue, bubble tea, dim sum, karaoke and a wide range of museums and festivals are just some examples of how deeply embedded Asian culture is in New York City—and how that culture is experienced by locals and visitors from around the world.
On this platform, we celebrate and amplify the contributions of the Asian community in New York City. Bookmark this page and check back frequently for new content.
Celebrating Asian Culture in NYC
At well over a million residents, the Asian community within the five boroughs is a vital part of the fabric of New York City. And with representation from nearly every country in Asia, the diversity within that community is unmatched anywhere else in the U.S. Here we pay tribute to the multitude of cultures whose contributions have helped give the City its incomparable dynamic character.

New York is the most visited city in the USA
New York City is the largest city in the USA. The population of the city is approximately 8.5 million people. It is also the most visited city in the United States by tourists. In 2016, 61 million tourists visited New York. It must be borne in mind that the city is most popular among the residents of the United States themselves. The number of foreign tourists was approximately 12 million in 2016. Most foreign tourists come to New York from the UK, Canada, Brazil and China.
New York is located on the Atlantic coast, near the mouth of the Hudson River. The city is located partly on several islands (Manhattan, Staten Island, the western part of Long Island and others) and partly on the mainland. The length of the city from west to east is about 50 kilometers, from north to south about 40 kilometers. New York includes five administrative districts (districts, boroughs): the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island. Most of the attractions are located in the borough of Manhattan.
Distance from New York to some cities: Los Angeles – 3950 kilometers, Miami – 1750 kilometers, Las Vegas – 3600 kilometers, Moscow – 7500 kilometers, Beijing – 11000 kilometers.
Look at the location of New York on the US map.
What does the word New York mean? The answer is ambiguous. The fact is that this name is also used by the state of New York (New York State) and the city of New York City and the district (County of New York). When locals say New York, they often mean Manhattan, and other boroughs (districts) of the city are called by their names (Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island). When tourists say New York, they usually mean the whole city of New York City.
Attractions

They will certainly be of interest to tourists coming to New York.
Don’t limit yourself to just reading guidebooks. Go on one (or several) excursions with a professional guide. Interesting excursions around New York are also conducted by local residents who are passionate about the history and culture of their city.
Times Square is one of the most visited places in the world. It is believed that about 50 million people visit this area every year. Times Square is an area in central Manhattan in New York City. Plastic cards (MetroCard) are used for fare payment. The base fare (single ride) is $2.75 when paying with a reusable MetroCard. (With the same ticket, you can continue the trip by city bus after exiting the metro).
The 7-night pass costs $31.00 and entitles you to multiple, unlimited rides on the subway and city buses during its validity period.
