Why you should buy a Louis Vuitton

The Viva luxury Blog © Wearing Louis Vuitton onthego bag

The first reason why you should buy a Louis Vuitton is because it is made of high quality material. This 1854 brand is known for their sturdy, high quality products. I’ve owned my Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM for 8 years now, use it frequently, and it still looks is good condition.

The second reason why you should buy a Louis Vuitton today as opposed to tomorrow is because, like other luxury brands, Louis Vuitton is constantly raising their prices. For example, the Neverfull bag is a timeless piece that will never go out of style, and in my opinion it is a good investment piece. Luxury brands are known for raising their prices every year, so the best rule to follow when purchasing a luxury brand is to do it sooner rather than later.

History of the Louis Vuitton brand | Marketing agency TOM SAWYER. System marketing with Irina Pischuk

Louis Vuitton (Louis Vuitton) is one of the oldest French fashion houses, specializing in the production of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories of the luxury segment, as well as jewelry. Suitcases are the hallmark of the brand.

Founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton.

Since 1998, Louis Vuitton has been publishing City Guide personalized tourist guide to the most interesting places on the planet.

For 2013, the company is part of the LVMH holding (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy), owned by Bernard Arnault. Since November 2013, the position of creative director of Louis Vuitton has been occupied by Nicolas Ghesquière.

History of the fashion house

Biography of Louis Vuitton

In 1837, young Louis Vuitton arrived in Paris and became an apprentice to the chest maker, Mr. Marechal. Thanks to his skills and talents, Louis quickly learned the technique of making travel suitcases. Soon his name was already at the hearing of the French bohemia and the upper strata of society. Louis Vuitton made his original models of bags using striped dense fabric. Due to the quality of the finish and expensive materials, Vuitton suitcases were very popular with very wealthy buyers.

In 1854, Louis Vuitton opened his first Louis Vuitton store: Malletier a Paris (in French: “Louis Vuitton: The Leather Suitcases of Paris”) on Rue Neuve des Capucines in Paris on the Champs Elysées. On the pediment of the house, to this day, the inscription flaunts: “Louis Vuitton, the manufacture of suitcases, a Parisian trading house, founded in 1854.”

Success came to Louis Vuitton almost immediately: his main client was the wife of Napoleon III – Empress Eugenie de Montijo. By that time, Louis Vuitton suitcases were made exclusively for the elite.

In 1858, Louis introduced a novelty – a flat suitcase, which was called “Trianon”. A distinctive feature of the model was its flat shape. Up to this point, all suitcases were made with a convex lid, which complicated their transportation, since it was inconvenient to fold them. The suitcase was covered with a gray waterproof fabric, had a base of poplar wood, and its edges were protected from knocking down by metal corners.

1858 marked the beginning of another characteristic feature of the Louis Vuitton brand – the emergence of a huge number of fakes. Flat suitcases began to be made by other luggage manufacturers. Then Louis came up with the “seal of originality” of the brand – a striped red-beige color.

In 1885 the designer opened his first shop in London. In connection with the brand’s entry into the world market, he began to confirm the authenticity of his goods with the inscription “marque L.Vuitton deposee”.

Louis Vuitton died in 1892, leaving his empire to his son Georges Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton after the creator’s death

In 1895, the company’s designers, under the direction of Georges Vuitton, developed an iconic canvas with monograms that were very difficult to copy. Georges created a new motif, which consisted of a beige circle containing a four-leaf flower, a curved beige diamond with a four-pointed star and a dot in the center, the initials “LV” in memory of his father. The image was patented and subsequently became a trademark of Louis Vuitton. Thanks to this, the percentage of counterfeits of Louis Vuitton products has significantly decreased in the world.

Over the years, Georges has been promoting Louis Vuitton products internationally, traveling extensively and constantly moving from country to country. Soon Louis Vuitton stores appeared in New York, Bombay, London, Washington, Alexandria and Buenos Aires.

Louis Vuitton in the 20th century

In 1914, the Louis Vuitton boutique was opened on the Champs Elysées in Paris, which became the largest store in the city.

In 1930, the sensational Keepall was launched. The innovation was the main prerequisite for the emergence of a unique model of the Speedy bag, which appeared in 1932 and subsequently received the status of a cult.

In 1936, Georges Vuitton died, the management of Louis Vuitton completely passed into the hands of his son Gaston-Louis Vuitton.

During World War II, Louis Vuitton supported the Nazis by putting up a sign on the door: “No dogs allowed. No entry for Jews.” They tried to quickly forget this shameful page in the history of the brand.

In 1959 it was decided to change the famous monogram to a simpler one. This was done in order to apply it not only on large, but also on smaller objects, for example, on accessories.

In 1978, the first Louis Vuitton boutique opened in Japan. From that moment on, the brand began to expand its influence in Asia. Later branded boutiques were opened in Taiwan (1983) and South Korea (1984).

In 1987, the Louis Vuitton brand became part of the LVMH holding (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy), which is one of the largest luxury goods manufacturers in the world.

In 1989, Louis Vuitton had one hundred and thirty boutiques worldwide.

In the early 1990s, Yves Carcel was appointed President of the Fashion House.

In 1992, the first branded boutique was opened in China.

In 1996, Louis Vuitton celebrated the 100th anniversary of its signature invention, the Monogram Canvas.

A New History of the Fashion House

In 1997, Marc Jacobs became Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton. Thanks to the work of the designer, the company released the first women’s and men’s pret-a-porter collections: clothes, shoes, accessories and jewelry. Up until this point, Louis Vuitton had been making bags and suitcases exclusively. The fashion designer has collaborated on the collections of many famous artists: Stefan Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince and rapper Kanye West.

In 1998, the Fashion House launched the Louis Vuitton City Guide, a tourist guide to the world’s most interesting places.

In 1999, the first Louis Vuitton boutique was opened in Morocco.

In 2003, together with Takashi Murakami, a new monogram technology “Multicolore” was developed, which was used to create a limited collection. In the same year, Louis Vuitton branded boutiques were opened in the capitals of Russia and India.

In 2005, Louis Vuitton celebrated its 115th anniversary. In honor of this significant event, new boutiques of the company opened in Sao Paulo, New York, Shanghai and Johannesburg.

In 2008, Rei Kawakubo, founder and art director of Comme des Garçons, approached Yves Carcel to open a joint store in Tokyo.

“Comme des Garcons was the first to propose a collaboration, and it would be foolish to refuse this, as the joint project is a great occasion to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary in Tokyo.”

Yves Carcel

For three months, the boutique sold a collection of bags, consisting of six models. For Louis Vuitton Monogram Speedy, Rei Kawakubo created 8 handles of different lengths.

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross, Louis Vuitton created a collection of first-aid kits in the form of suitcases with built-in drawers for storing medicines. The body of the original case was decorated with a red cross. The first aid kit was also put up for auction at Sotheby’s.

The use of carbon fiber in the BMW i8 speaks of a rational approach to the use of lightweight structures. With the same desire for innovation, aesthetics and lightness, Louis Vuitton works. The luggage collection matches the new car perfectly.”

Andrian Van Heydonk, Chief Designer, BMW Group
