Barcelona International Airport (also known as El Prat de Llobregat Aeropuerto or Aeroport de Barcelona) is situated 13 km South West of the city centre. The airport abbreviation is (BCN). This abbreviation is often referred to by online flight reservations services and will be most likely printed on your airline ticket.

Distance between Barcelona Airport terminals
Question: What is the distance between T2A and T2B at Barcelona Airport?
Answer – About 5 minutes walk – no need for a shuttle bus.
However
Question: What is the distance between T1 and T2 ?
Answer: 4 Km. You will therefore need the free airport shuttle bus to travel between T1 and T2 and it is best you allow a least 30 minutes for this journey to be on the safe side. This will include waiting time for the shuttle bus and transit time.

1. Barcelona Airport Taxis
A Taxi offers a low-cost and convenient way to get to the city centre. From Terminal 2 (T2A , T2B and T2C) the journey takes around 25 – 30 minutes (depending on traffic).

2. Aerobus Express Bus
Aerobus A1 and A2 the airport Express bus service)
The Aerobus is the express bus service that runs regularly between the airport and the city centre.
If you are going to Terminal 1 you will need to catch the A1 Aerobus – this journey takes 25 – 30 minutes. If you are going to Terminal 2 you will need to catch the A2 Aerobus – this journey takes 30 – 35 minutes. Both buses look the same, but have different numbers on the front of the bus.
Tickets to both T1 and T2 cost the same.

3. Barcelona Airport Train
Trains from the Airport
The RENFE train will take you from Barcelona airport to the city centre where you can change for the metro system at either Barcelona Sants (Sants Estació) or Passeig de Gràcia stations. Journey time is about 25 minutes. The Train station is based at T2 in-between T2A and T2B therefore if you are arriving at T1 and want to catch the RENFE train into the town centre you will need to catch the airport shuttle bus to the Train station at T2 first.

If you are arriving into T1, you also have the option of catching a bus to a nearby train station (not the one at the airport) where there are trains travelling into Barcelona – an option that is popular amongst staff at the airport.
The PR1 bus leaves from outside T1 and travels to El Prat train station (the journey takes about 12 minutes). Once you are at El Prat Train station there are trains every 15 minutes to Barcelona city centre – this is more regular than trains from the airport train station.
4. Metro link to Barcelona airport

it is highly recommended that you find out in advance of your trip what terminal you are flying from (or to) Either Terminal 1 (T1) or Terminal 2 (T2A, T2B or T2C) because you will need to allow for up to an additional 30 minute transfer by airport shuttle bus to the other terminal if you arrive at the wrong terminal.
The time for the transfer between T1 and T2 is between 10-15 minutes however you may need to wait for the next shuttle bus.

Barcelona Airport (BCN) – El Prat International Airport

Barcelona Airport – Tourist Information
Most tourists arrive in Barcelona by plane. Barcelona International Airport – El Prat (Aeroport de Barcelona – el Prat) is located at a distance of about 12 kilometers southwest of the city center. It is the largest airport in Catalonia and the second busiest in Spain.

The El Prat airfield was opened in 1918. In 2016, the airport handled 44.1 million passengers.
Currently, the airport has two terminals T1 and T2. Terminal 1 was put into operation in 2009. The terminal has an area of 548,000 sq.m. and is the fifth largest in the world.
Terminal 2 is divided into three sections, 2A, 2B and 2C. The oldest part of the terminal was opened in 1968.
The terminal was expanded for the 1992 Summer Olympics. The distance between the terminals (in a straight line) is 1.5 kilometers. Passengers can move between terminals on a free shuttle (bus).
Barcelona – how to get from the airport
Passengers can get from the airport to the city center (and from Barcelona to the airport) using various modes of transport: bus, metro, railway and taxi.
Bus
Bus line 46 goes to the airport from Plaza España. This is the cheapest way to get to (from) Barcelona Airport.
Aerobús operates direct flights between terminals T1 and T2 and the city center (Plaça Catalunya).
Night buses N17 and N16 go to Barcelona Airport from Plaça Catalunya. Night bus N17 runs from Plaça Catalunya to Terminal 1. Night bus N16 runs to Terminals 2A, 2B and 2C. (The stop is located at the junction of Ronda Universitat and Plaça Catalunya.)
The airport also has bus connections to the nearest airports (Reus Airport and Girona-Costa Brava) and other cities.
Train
The railway station is located at Terminal 2 at the airport. The train runs between the airport and Maçanet-Massanes station every 30 minutes, stopping at the Barcelona Sants and Paseo de Gracia train stations, also at Clot station. Passengers arriving at Terminal 1 can get to Terminal 2 by bus. The launch of the rail service between Terminal 1 and Barcelona Sants and Passeig de Gràcia stations is expected by 2020.
Metro
Metro stations are available at both airport terminals. Metro line 9 began operating at the airport on February 12, 2016. Metro line L9 Sud connects Barcelona-El Prat Airport with the Zona Universitària. You can take the metro to the city center or to any station. You can easily find the stations by following the signs. Terminal 2 station is located next to the railway station.
Private transfer
You can also order a private transfer from the airport to Barcelona or any resort town on the coast.

Arrival terminals
The airport consists of two main terminals:
Terminal 1 receives most of the domestic and international flights, including flights from Russia and the CIS countries.
Terminal 2 works with local low-cost airlines and includes three sectors A, B and C.
There is another terminal that accepts only private planes.
After the aircraft has landed, passengers enter the passport control area through the sleeve or on the shuttle. There are several queues and the passage time depends on how many flights arrive at the same time. After you get a border crossing stamp on your passport, you need to go through security control and then follow the signs to the baggage claim hall.
There are many transporters, next to each of which there is a board with the flight number and city of departure. Travelers with hand luggage only can proceed directly to the exit.
The airport has left-luggage offices operated by the Excess Baggage Company. They are located in the first terminal on the ground floor and in the second in the registration hall. The first is open around the clock, and the second is from 06:00 to 22:00. The cost for one item is 6 euros per hour or 10 euros per day. You can leave things for no more than three months.
Barcelona transit
El Prat Airport often becomes a transfer point for transit passengers.
It is very important to correctly calculate the time for docking, especially if you need to get to the neighboring terminal. The distance between terminals 1 and 2 is 4 kilometers. Transit passengers can get from one terminal to another on a free bus that leaves every 7 minutes. Travel time is about 10 minutes. Shuttle traffic passes through the third and zero levels.
If the terminal of arrival and departure are the same, then a transit visa is not required. In this case, the baggage must be checked in to the final city, that is, the airline takes responsibility for the transfer of baggage. In all other cases, a visa is required.
If it is necessary to receive luggage, the tourist goes through passport control, receives luggage, and then proceeds to a new check-in. If the connection time allows, if you have a visa, you can go to the city.
Transit tourists can stay overnight at the four-star Air Rooms Barcelona Airport Hotel, which is part of the business center in the first terminal of the airport.

Departure from BCN

El Prat Airport has a developed infrastructure with large waiting rooms with comfortable seats. Many restaurants and cafes offer a wide range of dishes, and a variety of shops will allow you to enjoy shopping.
Smoking is permitted in designated areas. There are 24-hour pharmacies and a medical center where you can go if you have health insurance.
There is also a mother and child room, a children’s playground in the landing area in Terminals T1 and T2. There is also a chapel at Barcelona Airport. For the disabled, all conditions have been created throughout the entire airport.
There are four VIP lounges in Terminal 1 and one in Terminal 2. Business class passengers and Priority Pass card holders can use them free of charge, for the rest the entrance is paid.
WiFi internet and telephone
Kubi Wireless provides free internet only for the first 30 minutes of use, then payment is required. You can pay online with a credit card or with a prepaid card, which is sold at the airport in Divers and Crystal Media stores. There are cards with a face value of 30 minutes and 24 hours. Cost of one hour 9euros, for use during the day you will have to pay 15 euros.
There are 26 access points at the airport, most of which are located in cafes and VIP lounges. Information about their location can be found at the information desk.
There are places where you can charge your gadget for free. And also, if necessary, you can use a stationary computer. To communicate with the house, it is best to connect roaming.
A local SIM card is sold at the tobacconist at the exit of the airport.
Tax Free
Tax refunds are available at Barcelona Airport. When making purchases in shopping centers, you must keep all receipts. The amount of purchases must be at least 91 euros. At the airport, at the Civil Guard Invoice stamping office, which is located in the first terminal in the check-in area and in the second terminal in the arrivals area, you need to stamp the checks.
Directly for a refund, you must contact the offices of Global Blue, Global Exchange or La Caixa. At the same time, Global Blue only accepts Global Blue receipts, while La Caixa, on the contrary, accepts all checks except Global Blue. Only Global Exchange works around the clock. You must have a passport, tickets, as well as goods with all tags.
The maximum amount that can be received is 21 percent. The size of Tax Free depends on the category of goods. Money is returned in cash or on a card. A commission is charged for each check. If the total amount of purchases is quite high, then the Tax Free refund is a good way to save money.
Duty Free at Barcelona Airport
Of course, Spain, and in particular Barcelona, is famous for its quality shopping. And like all major airports, there is a duty-free zone. You can buy high-end imported and Spanish drinks, perfumes and cosmetics from well-known manufacturers at a discounted price. In addition, there are boutiques of famous brands. Currency exchange
The service is provided by the La Caixa bank. Exchange points are located on the first level of the first terminal and on the zero level of the second terminal. Opening hours from 07:30 to 22:00. No commission is charged, but the exchange rate is unfavorable, so it is not recommended to change a large amount. If the passenger has a question about withdrawing cash, you can use round-the-clock ATMs. They are located in both terminals in the departure and arrival areas, in public places and in the transit area. ATMs accept all bank cards with an international payment system.
