Cons
Like the Soho district of New York, the eight-floor Soho Hotel in Barcelona features a fashion-forward, design-driven feel, with lots of glass, wood, sleek furnishings and bright orange colors. The rooftop splash pool is the star of the show, and features a terrace with lounge seating and a good view of the Gran Via. The 51 rooms are stylish and streamlined, and come with free Wi-Fi and flat-panel TVs. Some travelers may find the rooms a bit spare, but the hotel is a good choice for those who want an upscale yet relatively affordable hotel with a pool within walking distance of La Rambla. It may be worth comparing rates with Hotel Jazz, however, which is a bit closer to La Rambla and also has a rooftop pool.

Enchanting design, lots of orange and a rooftop pool with views
Fronted by a glass exterior on the Gran Via with a bright orange “Soho” sign, the Soho Hotel features an interior with even more design delights: glass sliding doors covered in a wavy orange pattern, an orange glass wall with a psychedelic glow, and a room lighting scheme that transforms from “hot” (orange lights) to “soft” (dim white). Even more orange is on display on the walls of the hotel’s inviting reading room, featuring globe-shaped lamps, black leather chairs and a flat-panel TV. The hotel tends to draw a stylish crowd, but it’s not oppressively hip. The highlight of the public spaces is the small eighth-floor rooftop splash pool and terrace with views of the neighboring Gran Via and Barcelona.

Rooms
Minimalist and modern, with free Wi-Fi and flat-panel TVs
Rooms at the Soho are a bit spare, which may not suit those who like their hotel rooms to be filled with artwork and other decor. But they are well-constructed and typically quiet, with laminate hardwood floors and white cotton beds that are firm and comfy if not overly plush. Some rooms feature two single beds pushed together. A neat design feature is the lighting, which lets guests switch the room from “hot” (orange and bright lighting) down to “soft” (dim white lighting). The array of room amenities is good, and includes free Wi-Fi, flat-panel TVs, minibars, laptop-compatible safes and desks. Some rooms have views of the interior courtyard or Gran Via.

Ample breakfast buffet and a refreshing rooftop pool with views
Guests enjoy views of the Gran Via from two spots at the Soho: an interior balcony mezzanine and an eighth-floor rooftop terrace, which features lots of chaise longues and soft seating. Guests can follow that latter view up with some sunbathing and a refreshing dip in the splash pool, which is not big but offers an opportunity to cool off. The Soho also offers up an ample breakfast with hot dishes, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereals, cheese, bread, pastries, juice, coffee and more. Also on site is a business center with free Internet. The hotel is missing a full lunch and dinner restaurant, fitness center, and sauna, but the lack of these items brings the nightly rates down a bit.

Soho hotel review from Barcelona Tourist Guide
Page Content
The Soho Hotel is located on Gran Via, next to many cool design hotels, among which it is not lost. This is a three-star hotel, so it does not have the luxurious amenities of four- and five-star hotels. The lobby is small and the dining area is similar to a dining room with stoves behind the counter and plastic chairs. However, the designers have done a good job of creating an interesting hotel that will attract design lovers. The lobby is modern yet warm. Sliding glass doors adorned with an orange wavy pattern lead to a long, narrow room with a reception desk on the right. Opposite the counter is an orange wall with psychedelic patterns, under which there is a screen with changing images. It looks “cosmic”, but in fact the orange glow creates coziness in the room.
The hotel is located on Gran Via, a wide street that runs from Plaza Universitat to Plaça España. Not the most ideal place for those who need a relaxing beach holiday. But if you’re after a cosmopolitan city break, then you’ll love the wide street lined with bars, shops, and restaurants.
Hotel facilities:
The hotel does not have a fitness center. However, there is a swimming pool on the terrace, on the 9th floor. This is a small pool, around it there are sun loungers, tables and chairs, and a boardwalk under your feet.
There is no restaurant in the hotel, but there is a “Soho Lounge” on the second floor, where a buffet is organized in the morning.
Pets are not allowed in the hotel.
Business people:
The hotel does not have business facilities. However, there is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. There is also a business center on the ground floor. It consists of two computers with free internet access, TV, sofa and tables.
For people with disabilities:
The hotel has 2 rooms adapted for wheelchair users. In these rooms, the width of the doorways has been increased and the design of the bathrooms has been changed. All floors are accessed by an elevator.
Number of rooms:
Small park at the back of the building. |
There are 51 rooms on 6 floors. All rooms are doubles, but it is possible to add an extra bed for an additional fee. It is also possible to add a baby cot free of charge. Three categories of rooms are available: Soho Room, Urban Room and Terrace Room. In total, the hotel has four rooms with terraces. Rooms are 33 sq.m. and access to the terrace. The Urban Rooms are the same as the Soho Rooms, but they are on the corner of the building, at the front of the building.
Each room has air conditioning, satellite TV, radio, safe and minibar.
If you want a quiet room, it is best to ask for a room in the inner part of the building, overlooking the park.
Hotel location:
Escriba |
First of all, it must be mentioned that Hotel Soho is located directly opposite one of Barcelona’s tastiest pastry shops, Escriba. Behind the beautiful tiled exterior lies a real treasure trove for lovers of sweets. On showcases, under glass, there are exquisite cakes that look like works of art. There is also a small cafe inside, where the most impatient can eat without leaving the cash register. And the production facility, which makes cakes to order, is open to visitors who can watch how the company’s original and fun cakes are made.
Hotel Soho is located on the main street – Gran Via. This street connects Plaza de la Universitat and Plaça España. Fira de Barcelona is located on Plaça España. This is one of the largest conference centers in Barcelona. Serious international conferences are regularly held there. The Soho Hotel is especially well located for those who will be attending events at the Fira de Barcelona. It is ten minutes walk from the center, right on Gran Via Cortes Catalanes.
If you come to Barcelona in search of tourist attractions, the Soho Hotel is just as well located for you. Plaza de la Universitat is a ten minute walk from the hotel and leads to two places of interest: Plaça Catalunya (where the Ramblas starts) and the Raval area. The Ramblas is one of the most famous places in Barcelona. Great place for people watching, street performers, and souvenir shopping. If you are interested in less touristy Spain, then head to the Raval area. This area is famous for interesting bars, small shops and eclectic restaurants. Meson David, on Calle Carretes, is known for its affordable local cuisine and great atmosphere.
Shopping travelers can walk to Passeig de Gràcia in just 15 minutes. There are many designer shops along this street. There, design lovers can also visit Vinçon, a large department store that sells only designer items at affordable prices.
