Three of us flew with friends to Spain. The entire trip was self-organized. The plan was this: a ticket to Athens and a separate ticket to Madrid with a transfer in Rome. We chose a transfer for a day in order to also capture Rome. We are fans of such routes to see many places at once. Therefore, this option was ideal for us.

We love Spain very much, we flew every year before the pandemic. And so, having studied various forums, we realized that it could get there through one of the EU countries open to us. The choice fell on Greece. The main rule is to take not a connecting flight, where the end point is Spain, but separate tickets Moscow – Greece, Greece – Spain.

Documents and certificates for the trip

Documents were quite easy to collect. Now this is a standard set: a PCR test and a special form of health. Each country has a separate form. In our case, we did for Greece, Spain, Italy. All forms can be viewed on the websites of consulates. You must fill it out online in advance of arrival. Better to print. This will make it easier to show at the border. We have been checked everywhere.

Before the trip, an urgent PCR test was done so that the result would be enough for all flights. In total, they passed one test for departure and one after returning to Russia. An urgent test cost about 3000 R, a regular one – 1800 R.

We had a Schengen visa issued by the Greeks. They opened it in Athens. Border control passed quickly. From the unusual – a large crowd of people in line to show a vaccination certificate or go for a PCR test, since upon arrival in Athens, those who do not have vaccination are sent for an express test. This takes a couple of minutes. By the way, the test itself is free. Later, an SMS with the result should come, but none of us received it.

On the flight from Athens to Rome, they asked for a PCR test and Italy’s health form. Upon arrival in Rome, they did not believe anything. When flying from Rome to Madrid, they again asked for a PCR test and a Spanish health form. Nothing was asked in Madrid.

How was the trip

Throughout our route – Athens, Rome, Madrid, Andalusian cities, Gibraltar, Barcelona – only a mask was required in public places: on transport, in museums, to reach a table in a restaurant. On the street, a mask was not required. All attractions were operating normally. Not a single hotel or restaurant asked for PCR.

It was very comfortable to be back in Europe! The only downside is the masks. It is not very comfortable to be in them for more than 10 minutes. Prices have risen significantly over the past two years.
