Don’t think your only options for getting around Barcelona are by a crowded tour bus, an expensive private tour or even public transport. Get outside when the weather’s just right (which is almost always), see the sights in your own time, and get to know the city close-up. From a government sponsored bike program to various bike rental compaines that offer hourly rates and all day tours around the city, the options are endless. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, try one of the segway tours or a bike tour package that not only takes you around the city but some include stops at restaurants for delicious tapas.

Testimonials
Really good bikes and well maintained, we had the slightly more expensive bikes for 15 Euros a day and they were well worth it for taking in the hillier areas of the city. Would definitely use again, thanks.

Well maintained bikes with a friendly, multi lingual staff. The renting process was easy as well and it’s well worth the money!

Best part of my Barcelona trip! Easy to rent, English-speaking and friendly staff. My friends highly recommend the electric bikes, especially for going to Montjuïc. I enjoyed the premium. And extremely affordable! Highly recommend this place!

Bicycle rental | Come On! Barcelona
Renting a bike in Barcelona is very easy. The main thing is to have an identity card with you, which you will definitely be asked to leave as a deposit (one for several people is possible) and a small amount of cash (credit cards are not accepted at all rentals). There are plenty of bike rentals in Barcelona, so if you decide to start your day on two wheels, the first thing to do is to ask Google for the closest “rent a bike” rental to you.
Most bike rentals in Barcelona are in Born, Raval and Barceloneta.
There is no single pricing policy, because everything depends on the rental service and the quality of the bikes themselves. Cheap is not always good.
Discovering Barcelona by bike is healthy and healthy:
- organized bike paths, the network of which is growing every day;
- beautiful promenade where you can park your bike and swim;
- Eixample district with magnificent modernist architecture.
Disadvantages of cycling:
- the old town and the gothic quarter are always full of people and the streets are too narrow to go round, besides, it is easy to get lost;
- bicycles must be well fastened, because the theft of two-wheelers is a common thing in Barcelona;
- traffic rules have not been canceled for cyclists, so you need to be vigilant and follow the traffic.

How to see Barcelona on a bike without spending a cent
Bicycle rentals are available. It is best to choose electric models: both the speed is higher (up to 20 km/h) and the legs get less tired in the evening. However, this pleasure is not cheap, about 25 € per day. But there is a great way to use the service for free by downloading the mobile app.
In this article, I will describe all the benefits of the service and give step-by-step instructions on how to save money on renting a bike in Barcelona.
Local residents use red Viubicing bikes for short bike rentals, but this bike sharing is not available to tourists. You need to have a Spanish residence, a local TIN and pay for an annual subscription.
Viubicing bike parking
But tourists can use the service of the Scoot company, which does not require the provision of documents, a deposit and a subscription fee. It will take about 10 minutes to register and rent a bike.
Renting bikes through mobile applications is quick and easy. You see in advance the availability of bicycles in your area. No need to look for a rental office, find out from them the availability of free bikes, rental conditions, carry documents with you and make a deposit. And no one canceled the language barrier.
Scoot rental price:
- E-bike: €0.15/minute, €20 per day
- Electric moped: €0.28/minute, €50 per moped.
The company provides a bonus in the form of 2 or 4 hours of free bike rental to all new users. Resourceful tourists take advantage of this and ride for free the whole vacation (but I didn’t tell you about this). Below, read the step-by-step instructions on how to download the application and use the rental.
The way the Scoot mobile app works is very simple: the app automatically detects your location and shows you nearby bikes or mopeds.
Select the transport closest to you and click “book”: your reservation is valid for 15 minutes. During this time, no one else will be able to pick up the bike.
After booking, the bike number will be available (it is indicated on the frame). On a bike, look for this number on the frame or wheel.
After you get to the vehicle, press the button in the app and the lock will unlock. The trip time is counted from unlocking to re-locking the bike.
You can leave it anywhere, in a bike rack or simply fastened to a pole or tree. Two main conditions:
- Secure the bike securely so that it won’t be stolen.
- There should be no signs prohibiting bicycle parking nearby.
Download the Scoot app to your phone in advance.
The application installs in a couple of minutes. If for some reason it did not load, then set the country of Spain in the Google Play settings.
Android and Iphone links: Scoot Barcelona 9 website0003 This is how the interface of the Scoot application looks like
At the first authorization, the application will ask you for a promotional code for a free trip, so it’s better to stock up on it in advance.
Site with Scoot promo codes
Promo codes are updated every month. The time of a free trip in the low tourist season is 4 hours, in spring and summer – 2 hours.
Website with promo codes
The application will ask you for a phone number. Mobile numbers are supported only in Spanish. If you did not plan to buy a Spanish SIM card, then you can use the virtual number service to receive SMS.
Pay attention to 2 factors: the status of the number should be online, and the number of SMS should be as small as possible.
After the phone number is entered, a confirmation code will be sent to the specified number. If the number is virtual, then you can view it on the same website.
Sometimes SMS messages arrive with a delay of 5-7 minutes. You may have to wait.
An example of a service with phone numbers An example of a service with phone numbers
To authorize, enter your name, date of birth, email address. On the next page, the application will ask if you have a promo code. This step is required for a free ride. Enter the promo code in the box and click “continue”.
Next, you need to enter the bank card number, everything is standard there.
Once you’re logged in, Scoot will automatically determine your location and offer you a vehicle of your choice. Book the nearest one, pick it up and ride it freely around the city for 2 or 4 hours (depending on the activated promotional code).
It is very important to turn in 10-15 minutes in advance so that in case of problems there is time to eliminate them. If you do not have time, per-minute billing will be activated at a price of 0.15 €/minute.
After the ride, leave the bike in any convenient place. The end of the trip should be noted in the application.
The action can be repeated an infinite number of times, specifying a different phone number for SMS confirmation. The service identifies users by phone number. If your phone number has not yet been activated in this application, then you are considered a new account for the system. You can use your spare numbers or free virtual SMS numbers. The email address, owner and bank card remain the same.
If the virtual number has already been activated, the application will prompt you that this phone number is already busy and will ask you to enter another one.
