5 Fun Places to See a Flamenco Show in Barcelona (Pictures)
Flamenco is not only a fashionable affair in Barcelona, but it’s also an important part of the puzzle that makes up the city’s history. The colorful dance (complete with lots of foot-stamping and hand-clapping) was brought up from Andalucia and has embedded itself in Catalan culture as if it had always been at home there. This means there are a whole host of great venues to watch flamenco shows in, whether you’re looking for a full-on three-course meal type event or simply a drink and a dance.
A traditional flamenco performance at one of Barcelona’s famous tablao’s
Cordobes Tablao Flamenco
Tablao Cordobes/Tablaocordobes.com
Barcelona’s best-loved flamenco venue offers an environment so intimate you’re in danger of getting your foot trodden on by the spiked heels of the dancers. The venue now boasts a beautiful baroque interior with wall-carvings and a suitably Moorish style, and it’ll set you back between 30 and 77 euros depending on whether you dine alongside the dance or not.
Palacio del Flamenco
Palacio Flamenco/Palaciodelflamenco.com
Recently renovated, this elegant venue holds around 450 spectators so you can imagine the size of the performances. It’s not a particularly intimate activity, but that’s reflected in the cheaper prices – 25 euros to see a basic afternoon show or 85 euros if you make an evening of it with dinner and drinks.
Tablao de Carmen
Tablao de Carmen/Tablaodecarmen.com
In true flamenco style this venue draws you in with its traditionally Moorish décor and exposes you to some of the best new dance talent in Barcelona. The small space pretty much places you in the centre of the act, so you can actually feel the emotion that warrants such forceful hand claps. Tickets range from 39 to 77 euros depending on the time of day and whether you want to tuck into some tapas at the same time.
Restaurante Nervion
Restaurante Nervión/Restaurantenervion.com
Hidden away in the heart of the old town near the Picasso Museum, this restaurant is the go-to flamenco haunt for locals. This is partly because of the calibre of dancers and partly because the prices are very affordable. You’re looking at 14 euros just for the show and a drink or 37 euros to have some dinner, too.
Teatro Poliorama
Teatre Poliorama/Teatrepoliorama.com
Now this is some hand-clapping and foot-stamping with a difference. Whilst flamenco is a gloriously interpretive display all on its own, the Teatro Poliorama throws in a bit of opera too, forming a new genre of Spanish storytelling entirely. The result is a slightly strange and surreal mix of theatrical opera, lively flamenco, and traditional folklore tales. Tickets can be bought for between 33 and 48 euros, but there’s a downside to this unique evening out – as it’s a theatre you can’t grab a bite to eat whilst you watch on.
Flamenco may not be Barcelona’s baby but it pretty much feels like it is these days, what with the sheer number of great flamenco venues throughout the city. It’s a great way to combine a Spanish history lesson with an awesome night out.

Flamenco show in the Spanish village in Barcelona

Flamenco dancer in the Spanish village of Poble Espanyol |
In this article I will tell about my impressions of the flamenco show in the Spanish village of Poble Espanyol in Barcelona. The evening includes a four-course dinner of traditional Spanish cuisine and a performance by a group of ten people. Details on ticket prices, schedules and directions can be found at the end of the article.
Most people, when asked what they associate Spain with, most likely mention flamenco along with sangria and the sun. For many, this passionate and powerful dance is an expression of Spain and its spirit. I decided to find out more about this at a flamenco evening with dinner at Tablao de Carmen. At the end of the evening, I can say that I joined the hordes of flamenco fans.
Performing at a flamenco show
Entrance to the flamenco show |
Flamenco is not a traditional Catalan dance, it originated in southern Spain. However, due to the steady migration of people from the south over the years, real flamenco can now be seen in Barcelona. The dancers displayed an innate and unaccountable skill on the stage. They moved to the music with pleasure and passion, which penetrated to the depths of the soul. Some dancers were tormented and sincere, while others were carefree and cheerful.
The guitarist with the Spanish guitar was not only handsome, but also an amazing musician. The characteristic and intricate sound of the Spanish guitar was in harmony with the voices of the singers and the movements of the dancers. The beautiful and pained voices of the three singers were combined with a flamenco dance. Sometimes they were joined by a dancer with an incredibly strong voice.
The show was attended by large groups, small families and couples. All diners were given their own tables and the pre-show atmosphere was friendly but reserved. After the performance began, it became clear that what was happening on the stage made people forget about everything. Eating dinner and talking ceased, and the silence was punctuated by shouts and applause. It was very nice to see such sincere delight and unrestrained emotions at the performance.

Flamenco show dinner
The food was of very good quality. Dinner consisted of four courses, each of which could be chosen to your taste from different options. Traditional Spanish cuisine was presented, with dishes on the menu such as gazpacho, lentil-chorizo stew and Catalan cream. Meals are brought before the show and during the show. The waiters are accommodating and friendly, and have obviously been trained to serve tables on the sly so as not to interfere with the audience watching the show.

There are drinks to choose from and there is no shortage of them during the evening. I came to the show alone and they gave me a whole bottle of water and a bottle of red wine.
If you are a vegan, please let us know when booking your tickets. As a main dish, you can choose meat or fish, which will suit those who eat fish, but not vegetarians. All other dishes can be vegetarian.

When booking tickets, you will be advised to arrive 45 minutes before the start of the show. This is so you can have dinner before the show starts and the lights go out.

Entrance to the village of Poble Espanyol |
The village of Poble Espanyol is located on the hill of Montjuïc. It was built in 1929 as a large exhibition. The village consists of copies of houses of various architectural styles from different parts of Spain. It is a charming place with narrow winding streets and old-fashioned squares.
At the entrance to Poble Espanyol you will be asked for your name. You will be taken to the counter where you will be given a map of the village and told how to get to the “Arcos de la Frontera” area where the flamenco show takes place. Please note that it will take you some time to get to the venue of the show because Poble Espanyol is a fairly large village and the establishment is hidden in a small narrow street.
If you want to see Poble Espanyol but don’t want to pay the entrance fee, this is your chance to see the village. The entrance to the village is included in the ticket price. You can walk around Poble Espanyol either before or after the show and no one will ask you to leave.
