Barcelona, ​​the capital of Catalonia, is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. People go to this resort not only for a beautiful tan and warm sea, but also to see historical sights. Barcelona in Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula and borders the Mediterranean Sea.

The warm and mild climate of the Mediterranean allows you to relax in Barcelona all year round. The best months to visit the resort with children are July and August. At this time, the sea warms up to a comfortable temperature. Good months for rest are also the second half of May, June, September, early October. At this time, it is not so hot, but the weather pleases with warmth, in late September – early October, the sea is still warm, and prices are not as high as in the season. During these months, it is good to combine a beach holiday with sightseeing.

If tourists are not interested in a beach holiday, but in excursions, it is better to go during the low season. At this time, there will be fewer tourists, respectively, fewer queues at museums and parks.

In the resort you can choose hotels of any category, holidays near the coast or a hotel located closer to the center, where all the main attractions are concentrated.

Barcelona

Plaza Catalunya in Barcelona is the center of the city, where the most famous streets and quarters start: Eixample, La Rambla, Gothic Quarter and others. Some cathedrals, parks and palaces are within walking distance from the square.

Barcelona can be combined with shopping, there are large stores of famous local and world brands. Basically, they are concentrated in the immediate vicinity of the main square of the city. Passeig de Gràcia is recognized as the most fashionable shopping street. Two more shopping streets that originate in the square are Portal de L´Angel and Pelai.

Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia

Not far from Plaza Catalunya, in the Gothic Quarter, is the Cathedral, it is the residence of the Bishop of Barcelona. The gothic style cathedral with lancet windows with elements of the neo-gothic style began to be built at the beginning of the 13th century, its main tower was completed relatively recently and elements of the neo-gothic style were added. The height of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross – 93 meters. Its appearance, despite its huge size, is light and seems airy thanks to the French Gothic style.

Barcelona (tourist city)

The cathedral was built in honor of Saint Eulalia, whose relics are here. Eulalia sacrificed her life in the name of faith. All the inhabitants of Barcelona know about the feat of the saint, expressed in protest against paganism. From childhood, she devoted herself to serving God, bringing the teachings about him to the people. She died in the name of faith in torment at the hands of Roman legionnaires, since then she has been canonized as a saint and became the patroness of Barcelona.

There are 26 chapels in the Cathedral of St. Eulalia, each of them is interesting in its own way, they contain various shrines and artifacts. In the courtyard there is a fountain around which 13 geese walk, symbolizing 13 years of the life of the saint.

Ciutadella Park

Located in Barcelona on the site of a former military fortress, it was built in 19century. Landmark – Arc de Triomphe, located nearby. After the overthrow of the Bourbon dynasty, it was decided to turn this place into a park. The renovation did not take place without the help of the then young architect Antonio Gaudí. The fortress walls were demolished, the building of the Arsenal was left and it was converted into a palace, which now houses the Parliament of Catalonia. The Armory Square and the neoclassical chapel have also been preserved.

On the territory of the Ciutadeli Park, as it is also called, there is the “Castle of the Three Dragons”, a zoo, a chapel and museums. On the artificially created lake, you can swim in a boat, enjoying beautiful views and a huge waterfall. There are many sculptures in the park, and the fountain repeats the famous fountains of France and Italy. Ciutadella is not just a park, but a botanical garden with more than 100 species of plants growing on its territory, it is a green oasis in the city center.

Arc de Triomphe in Barcelona

Not a sign of great victories, it was designed by the architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas for the 1888 World Exhibition. It is located at the intersection of two streets: Pas de San Juan and Pas de Luis Companus. The arch is made of red brick and decorated with sculptures, its height is 30 m, width is 28 m. The facade of the arch is decorated with a figure of a hospitable host sitting on a throne and welcoming foreign guests. At the top in the middle, you can see the figures of lions standing on both sides of the shield with the coat of arms. On the reverse side are the works “Reward” and “Glory to agriculture.” The road from the Arc de Triomphe leads to the Ciutadella Park in Barcelona.

Monastery of Pedralbes

Located on the street of the same name. It was built at the beginning of the 14th century and served one of the functions: it accepted girls from wealthy families as nuns for training. The monastery was built by order of King Haym II and his wife, who subsequently ordered the construction of a palace to the monastery. The queen lived in this palace for some time. The palace was later destroyed, and only the monastery remained.

Please note! Part of the monastery is recognized as the largest Gothic cloister.

Agbar Tower

The symbol of the new Barcelona, ​​which does not stand still, but develops. New modern buildings appear. The tower has the shape of an ellipse and reaches a height of 145 meters, consists of 34 floors + 4 underground floors. At first it was assumed that the building would be used as an office building, but now it has been decided that it will house a hotel. LED lighting creates a mystical impression of the tower.

Plaza de España

One of the largest transport hubs of the capital of Catalonia, located at the foot of Montjuic. This is one of the most beautiful squares with a magnificent view of the National Palace. The square is decorated with two Venetian towers, 47 meters high, and a fountain.

National Palace, Barcelona

Bolero Cat

In the Raval district there is another small but cute symbol of the city – the Botero cat. For 15 years, the statue could not find a permanent place and now stands at the end of the avenue. A huge bronze cat with childlike features of the muzzle and rounded shapes and nose delights everyone and tourists like to take pictures with him as a keepsake.
