    Wonderful Trip to Barcelona

We spent 5 days in Barcelona. It was an amazing place. All travelling resorts are located in the city centre. You can easily get there by metro or even on foot. There are a lot of impressive sightseeing places, such as Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Mila. Someone may worry the safety. But I felt quite safe there. The people are also quite nice and helpful. I highly recommend to visit there.

Lovely sentiment of return if you drink from it

The first stop on our Gothic Quarter tour which left from Plaza Catalunya. The rumour is that if you drink from the fountain, you will return. My first time drinking from it, but hey, my 3rd visit to Barcelona. Keen as to come back, I need to see Sagrada Familia completed.

    Beautiful Fountain

The Font del Geni Catala is a fountain that was erected in memory of the Marquis of Campo Sagrado for his contribution to bringing water from the Sierra de Moncada to Barcelona. I

Made of white marble and dating from 1852, the fountain is topped with a winged character holding a star representing the “Catalan genius”, below this are four seated female allegories of the four provinces of Catalonia and the four marine horses represent the main rivers.

    Fountains, fountains!!!

Plaza de Catalunya has several fountains and numerous sculptures, as well as flocks of birds, trees, plants, flowers, other greenery and lots of people. Font dels Sis Putti is a beautiful fountain on one side of the Plaza, and it has three levels. It also has some beautiful sculptures of six chubby little young male figures, or putti. The fountain was constructed in 1926. It symbolises the birth of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. According to legend the goddess of love was born from the foam of the waves, near the coast of the island of Cyprus. In Greek aphro means foam. This is a very lovely representation and is absolutely worth visiting.

Very interesting and fun outdoor space

I loved this park, exploring all the different areas and understanding the design of it, as the main influences was using a series if triangles to break up the whole area. Many open space lawns, many level changes, seating areas, water features, fountain spouts, and lots of play areas for all ages. It really is a beautiful and interesting park to visit it you are in the city!

Two little brothers, up against the Romans

Things are always a little fuzzy when going back to 304 AD but, going on faith and whatever records the Romans left behind, Diocletian ended the lives of a nine year old boy and his thirteen year old brother on religious grounds. Justus (the elder) and Pastor are believed to be the subject of this fountain’s naming.

This is the second oldest fountain in Barcelona. In 1367 this fountain, in the Placa de Sant Just, sprung to life. The original three heads would have been the sources for the water. Today there are 2 spigots between the 3 heads. Up above is a single figure of what looks to be a young boy; suppositions are that this is a depiction of Saint Just(us). But, after 100 years, who can really say with any certainty?

In 1831, it had a minor face-lift/reconstruction. It still looks like it is original.

Still, it is a medieval treasure, so simple and free of formality and pomp. Amazing how the people of Barcelona can set up tables, chairs, and cafes around treasures like this that are 1,700+ years old. Seems like they should be under protective glass.

    A different fountain

La font de la Granota is a lovely fountain, although it’s situated at a very busy spot, as the main road, Avinguda Diagonal is a huge one. Nevertheless there is probably plenty of space around it for people to congregate. The 100-year old fountain depicts the lovely sculpture of a young child holding a frog . The water runs from the frog’s mouth. We some some people filling their bottles too! Not sure how good the water is! A nice spot and worth a stop, if you are passing by.

It’s okay, but don’t go out of the way to see it.

This fountain can be found in the Somorrostro beach area and I only happen to come across this while enjoying the beach.

The fountain is named in honour of Carmen Amaya, a Spanish flamenco dancer and singer, who was born in this area. I can’t pretend to know much about this art form, but I read that she was described as “the greatest Spanish Romani dancer of her generation”.

Given such high praise, this fountain is a sad reflection of her career. The fountain is fairly simple, with relief sculpture of figure during a dance routine featuring three dancers and two guitarists. Apart from her name cut into a nearby metal board, it’s nondescript, not even something to describe her life and career.

It’s okay, but don’t go out of the way to see it.

Barcelona Magic Fountain of Montjuïc (Font màgica)

The magic fountain of Montjuïc’s (Font màgica de Montjuïc in Catalan) first performance was on May 19, 1929 during the Great Universal Exhibition. The designer Carles Buigas submitted his plans one year before the exhibition and many thought that the project was too ambitious to be created, let alone completed on time.

Magic Fountain of Montjuïc at night

Over 3000 workers were commissioned to work on the project and less than 1 year later the magic fountain was born.

The magic fountain is a spectacular display of colour, light, motion, music and water acrobatics – if you mix these elements together in just the right combinations, you end up with pure magic! The magic fountain is a “must see” when you come to Barcelona and highly recommended.

Magic Fountain (Montjuic Fountain) ik in Barcelona. The Magic Fountain was built for the 1929 World Exhibition in Barcelona in a futuristic style in the shape of an ellipse, designed by local engineer Carlos Buigas.

This giant fountain, consisting of many small jets, begins to shimmer to the music of Bach, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky in thousands of colors, constantly changing its shape. It is as if he performs a magical dance, the movements of which are never repeated during the entire performance.

The Three Graces on the King’s Square…

The central element of the King’s Square is the “Three Graces” fountain, which was built by the architect Antoni Rovira y Trias in 1876. Perhaps the fountain is not only the central, but also the most elegant element of the square. Opinions are, of course, purely subjective. Beautiful fountain

An ancient and beautiful fountain that can also provide you with drinking water. This is one of the oldest drinking water fountains in the city, and it smells of antiquity, as if it has moved into the past, although there are many such places in Barcelona. But I liked this fountain very much, we are glad that we visited it.

Wallace’s Fountain. In Barcelona. On the Rambla…

As you know, the Wallace Fountain is one of the symbols of Paris. The idea of installing fountains (this significant event happened in Paris, in 1870) belongs to the English philanthropist Richard Wallace. He also paid for the first batch of fountains made by Val d’Osne – two for each of the Parisian districts. The idea took root and spread around the world – from Canada to Russia … One of Wallace’s fountains ended up on the Rumble. On the Rambla dels Caputxins. You can take a look during your Barcelona walk.

      large modern park

The park covers a large area – about 17 hectares, it is the second largest in the city. It was recently opened at 1999 and therefore it is distinguished by very interesting modern architectural solutions: I especially liked the fountains and aqueducts. The park includes old buildings that are now restored and used for public and business purposes: the former Santa Creu Mental Hospital for the mentally ill and the Can Carreras farmhouse.

      650-year history of the fountain

In the small Plaça de Sant Just in the center of the Gothic Quarter, opposite the Church of Saints Justus and Pastor, there is an ancient fountain. It is hard to believe that he is already almost 650 years old. The water in the fountain is drinkable, and we quenched our thirst with pleasure.

      In memory of famous dancer

We saw this small fountain along the Barceloneta beach, cute dancing children and the first memory of the famous gypsy flamenco dancer Carmenfa Amaya created it here. at 1959, three children dance flamenco, and two play guitar. Carmen began performing at the age of 12 in 1930, then the trio with two sisters became famous and international performances began. They traveled all over Latin America in the 1930s; Carmen became a world star after concerts at Carnegie Hall in 1941. Here is such a gypsy.

      Historical place

What you will not see on the Rambla in Barcelona. was not drinkable. Therefore, the history of the original fountain is very old, from 1314. A pretty coat of arms of Barcelona and a shield. And a lion’s skin. That’s just all this is a remake, made in 1830 based on the old fountain. So just look like a relatively modern artifact

What are the Magic Fountains of Barcelona?

The history of the fountain goes back to the period of preparation for the World Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929. He was supposed to become (and became) an adornment of the city and Montjuic. Construction began just a year before the exhibition (the project was led by engineer Carlos Buiges), which many saw as too short a time – the fear of not having time to finish the fountain spoiled a lot of bureaucratic nerves. However, thanks to the hard work of 3,000 builders, the fountain opened just a day before the World’s Fair and ended up being a great success. The devastating Spanish Civil War put the fountain out of action before 1955 years old. In the 80s, thanks to new technologies, musical accompaniment was added to the lighting effects. The new life of the fountain began with a new global event in Barcelona – the 1992 Olympics. The attraction has acquired a modern look and significance as a real magnet for tourists.

Very close to the fountain is the most important monument for the Catalans – the Four Columns, symbolizing the moral independence of their homeland within Spain. They were demolished in 1928, but restored in 2010.

Fountain performances are thematically based on classical and contemporary music as well as popular movie soundtracks. Shows run in the evening, on weekends from April to October. The main fountain is visible far enough, so there are several points in the vicinity from where it can be successfully observed. The fountain is able to delight the audience with hundreds of compositions of water jets and a variety of lighting effects that are constantly being improved.

It cannot be said that the Singing Fountain of Barcelona is particularly outstanding compared to other fountain types in Dubai. But still, there is something attractive in it, which is why so many people gather here.

Every year, on September 26, a part of the La Merce festival is held at the fountain in honor of the city’s patron saint. The festive program, in addition to the wonders of the fountain, includes a pyrotechnic show, performances by local musicians and dancers.

Opening hours of the musical fountains in Barcelona

The fountains are open from May to September on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 21:00 to 23:30. Musical performances start every half an hour. From October 31 to March 30, the fountains turn on on Friday and Saturday every half an hour from 7 to 9evenings. On December 24, 25, 26, 31, as well as on January 1 and 5, the fountains are closed.
