Double Decker Tourist Buses in Barcelona: The Benefits of Hop-on Hop-off – Barcelona10
Tourist double-decker tours are available in every tourist city, Barcelona is no exception. In this article, we will tell you in detail what kind of excursions they are, how to use them, what are the advantages and how much it costs.
Hop-on Hop-off buses
Even the smallest travel company will offer you a regular bus tour of Barcelona, but such group events have several significant drawbacks: “attachment” to the bus and viewing the maximum number of objects in the minimum time. It is clear that under such conditions it will not be possible to qualitatively study the sights. This is what makes the Barcelona double-decker tour bus different from other bus tours: it allows you to get a better idea of the places and see everything of interest at your own pace.
How does it work? Tourist buses are called Hop-on Hop-off for a reason. By purchasing one ticket, you can travel along 3 routes, while you are allowed to get off the bus at all stops for a detailed acquaintance with the sights. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you – 15 minutes or 2 hours. You just return to the stop and get on the bus that is standing there, it will take you to the next point on the route. Buses move in a circle according to the schedule with a small time interval. That is, there is no requirement to return to the bus by a certain time, and you do not need to constantly wait for latecomers.
Special double-decker buses have an open top and are equipped with an audio guide in 11 languages, including Russian. At the entrance you will be given headphones with which you can use the audio guide. Headphones will remain with you. Another plus is that this tourist transport is adapted for people with disabilities and even for those who use hearing aids.
Buses leave from each stop of the route around 9:00 – 9:30 and run until 19:00 in winter and until 20:00 in summer.
How much does a ticket cost?
The basic ticket price for the sightseeing bus for an adult is 28 euros for 1 day and 38 euros for 2 days. The cost for a child from 4 to 12 years old is 16 and 21 euros, respectively.
Where can I buy a ticket?
Tickets for the Barcelona sightseeing bus can be bought at the following locations: directly on the bus, bookstores, newspaper kiosks, bus and metro ticket offices (TMB), Barcelona Turisme Tourist Information Centres.
Tickets for the double-decker bus can also be purchased online in advance.
After payment, you will receive a voucher by e-mail, which does not need to be printed: just show it when entering the bus.
Buying a ticket for the Barcelona sightseeing bus, tourists get a nice bonus in the form of a booklet with discount coupons – you can save money on visiting theaters, museums, cafes and restaurants, as well as make bargains in large shopping centers.

Tourist bus routes
Green route
The route starts at the Olympic Port, the bus moves past the Poblenou coastal area and the beaches of Barcelona to the Forum building with stops at Bogatell Beach and Diagonal Mar Park – the youngest and most unusual park with tubular architectural figures.
Route operation period: end of March – beginning of November.
Travel time – 40 minutes.
Blue route
This route takes about 2 hours to pass through the northern part of the city, starting at Plaça Catalunya. Moving along the Gracia Avenue, the bus makes stops at the architectural masterpieces of Gaudí – Casa Batlló and Casa Mila, then at Park Güell. To get to Mount Tibidabo, you can get off at Kennedy Square, not far from the Blue Tram stop, from which you will then need to transfer to the funicular. In the Pedralbes quarter, the 14th-century monastery and the Güell pavilions at the entrance to the old manor are of interest. Then the road leads to the famous Camp Nou stadium, which houses the museum of the Barcelona football club. The trail continues along Avenida Diagonal, stopping at Piazza Francesc Macia, passing through the Eixample district and the Museum of Modern Art, and ends at Plaza Catalunya, where you can switch to another stop and continue on to the next route.
Red route
This route also starts at Plaça Catalunya and follows Avenida Diagonal to the southwest of the city. Stops are provided at the Sants station, on the large shopping street Creu Coberta, on the Plaza de España and at the Fira de Barcelona exhibition center. Moving south, to the foot of Montjuic, we find ourselves in the Museum of Classical and Modern Art Caixa Forum, in the Spanish Village (open-air museum) and in the National Art Museum of Catalonia.
The extreme point of the route in the southwest is the Olympic Stadium and the nearby museum dedicated to the 1992 Olympics. You can get to the top of Montjuic by the Teleferic de Montjuik cable car – there is also a stop at the station. Descending the hill, he drives along the coastal part of the city past the World Trade Center, the Maritime Museum, Port Vell and the zoo. At the Olympic Port, the bus turns around, returning to Plaça Catalunya via Pla de Palau and the Gothic Quarter.
__________
Tourist bus in Barcelona is an excellent and convenient option for independent travel around the city without problems with transport and tickets for it. You choose what and when to watch and how much time to devote to a particular object. Of the minuses, it can only be noted that you will have to spend some time at stops waiting for the bus, although if you are guided by the schedule, you can plan your movement without downtime. And in the center of Barcelona there are often traffic jams, in which the bus will also stop. But you can safely listen to the audio guide during this time.
