Holidays in Barcelona in October. What to do and see in Barcelona? What weather to expect?
Barcelona is one of the largest cities in Spain and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Barcelona is a city of celebration, a city of opulence and splendor, and cannot be fully known in a week’s travel. But it will take one evening to feel the spirit of the free Barcelona, because the city has an amazing atmosphere!
You can visit Barcelona whenever you like, as it never gets too cold there. But it is much more pleasant to explore this city during the warmer months of the year, for example, in October.
October is a month with very pleasant mild temperatures. It’s far from summer heat (and thank God!), but it’s still warm on the streets during the day and in the evening. The average daytime temperature in October in Barcelona is +21…+27°C (sometimes +28-29, but it almost never rises above +30). As a rule, the first two weeks are warmer, and in the last days, autumn, nevertheless, makes itself felt by a slight drop in temperatures (sometimes up to + 12-13 ° C). However, it also happens that just in the last week of October it becomes warmer than at the beginning of the month.
Nights in Barcelona at this time are also quite warm, but you should put on a blouse for a walk – on average, the air cools down to + 14 … 4 degrees).
The sun is still expected in Barcelona in October, although the day is getting shorter (the sun sets earlier). There are also precipitations in October, although very little: for the whole of October it can rain over Barcelona 4-5 times, and sometimes it will be cloudy (no problem). The winds are also a little stronger – the breath of autumn!
The sea temperature off the coast of Barcelona in early October is not that high, but you can’t call such water cold: on average, about +24°C. Every day the water slowly cools down, reaching +18…+21°C by the last days. So if you want to swim this month, it’s best to head to Barcelona in the first half (or even the first week).
What to do in Barcelona in October
October is perfect for walking and exploring this chic city, because the day is not so sultry and tiring. It is quite difficult to capture all the beauty of this city in one go, but you can try. You can explore Barcelona in many ways: by public transport (very convenient, by the way), by tourist buses with audio guides, on foot, etc.
You will find Bishop Palace (a small gallery is located in its courtyard) and Religious Museum of Religious Art , as well as CAC ARDAAK (or House of Archidacon ). The last building is an amazing mixture of architectural styles from several eras. The residence is old, it was built in the 16th century on the remains of an older structure of the 12th century – hence such a mixture of styles.
You can look into the museum of the great master Salvador Dali . His main museum is located in the city of Figueres (in Girona), but Barcelona also has its own not so large exposition of his works. Museum You will not pass by – there is a large egg at the entrance: you are there.
You can go to Horta Labyrinth Park to sit in the Romantic Garden and get lost in the hedge maze. The park is very beautiful and green, and for some reason it is never crowded there. Entrance is paid, but on certain days (more often on Wednesdays and Sundays) you can go there without tickets.
Plaza del Rey is home to the impressive Royal Grand Palace . Once important events were held in it, and in one of the halls the Queen of Spain learned about the discovery of the New World. Take the metro from the palace to Cariera Moncada to reach The Picasso Museum is a must-see in Barcelona. The great Spanish artist and sculptor lived and worked in this city, and also here he became friends with Carlos Casajemas and Jaime Sabartes, who later became frequent characters in his paintings. The museum, which is more than 50 years old, is housed in the old city palace of the 15th century – the Berenguer d’Aguilar Palace (Palacio de Berenguer d’Aguilar), which, by the way, is famous for its ancient courtyards.
It is a must to see with your own eyes some of the creations of the crazy Gaudí . Most of the fantastic works of the Spanish architect were built in Barcelona, where he lived and worked until his death. There are thirteen of these Gaudi buildings in Barcelona, and the most visited of them is Sagrada Familia Expiatory Temple . It is very easy to get to the temple by metro (to the Sagrada Familia station). However, in October there are often long queues at the entrance to the temple, but it is worth defending them, because the unusual interior impresses absolutely everyone.
Among other popular creations of Gaudí – Casa Batlló (on Passeig de Gracia, 43) and a little further down the street Casa Mila .
The famous Parc Güell with interesting “flexible” benches, strange plants, fantastically shaped buildings and “edible” houses is also worth a drive. The famous park in the upper part of Barcelona was also designed by Antoni Gaudi at the beginning of the last century. The park is a combination of gardens and residential areas, and the total area of the structure is more than 17 hectares. The once green residential area is now one of the main monuments of Spain, and the park is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Holidays and festivals in Barcelona in October
In the midst of a warm autumn in Barcelona, you can witness some interesting events. For example, on October 12 in Barcelona (and throughout Spain) el Puente del Pilar is celebrated. Nuestra Señora del Pilar is the patroness of Spain. This national holiday is also called Día de la Hispanidad or La Fiesta Nacional de España.
Also at this time in Barcelona is Catalonia International Fantastic Film Festival , known as the Sitges Festival. The event is held every year in this city on the Costa Barcelona. The festival specializes in horror and fantasy films and is one of the most important events in the world (within these genres). Within the framework of the festival, there are novelties, and retro, and short films. The main feature of the festival is “ Zombie Walk Sitges “, a kind of flash mob that takes place in the vicinity of City Hall Square (Town Hall Square) and the beach.
Among other things, this month there are a lot of interesting concerts (world-famous musicians come from all over the world, performing in various musical genres) – stay tuned!
In general, it is possible to describe interesting places and events taking place in Barcelona for a long time. However, in order to feel and appreciate the beauty of this amazing city, you need to see everything with your own eyes.
