How to get from Barcelona El Prat Airport to the city center

Upon arrival in the capital of Catalonia, travelers are hospitably received by El Prat Airport. The main question they have is how to get from Barcelona airport to the city center.

There are several such options, let’s look at each of them in more detail.

In any case, you can get to the center quite quickly, since the distance between the El Prat air hub and the city is only 12 kilometers.

Travel by train

If you want to save money, the train is the best way to get from Barcelona airport to the city.

This mode of transport will allow you to calculate the travel time more accurately, since there is no chance of traffic jams.

To get to the center, use the services of the Spanish railway RENFE.

On the official website of the company www.renfe.com you will find the schedule, fares and you can buy a ticket online.

These trains are reminiscent of Russian Aeroexpress trains – comfortable, air-conditioned.

The entrance to the station from which the train departs is located in terminal T2 (T2B). Travelers arriving at the first terminal can get to the train station on the free shuttle “Bus Transit”.

When planning your trip, keep in mind that it will take about half an hour to wait for the shuttle and get to another terminal.

RENFE train station.

Anyone who has not bought a ticket on the site can do it in the machine. Terminals support menus in German, English, French, Spanish, Catalan.

One ride costs about 2 euros, a 10-ride pass costs 9.95 euros. You can pay in euro cash or with a plastic card.

Trains from Barcelona Airport run daily from 05:42 to 23:38, the interval is 30 minutes.

The train will take you to one of three stops:

  • Barcelona–Passeig de Gracia;
  • El Slot;
  • Barcelona-Sants.

For people who travel light and without children, this option is suitable. Otherwise, it is better to choose a different way to get to the city.

The fact is that in the center you have to transfer to another mode of transport, and the passages here are quite long and stuffy.

In addition, due to the popularity of electric trains, sometimes you have to ride standing up and put your bags in the aisle: there are no luggage compartments on trains.

Bus service to the city center

There are three types of buses from Barcelona Airport to the city:

  • Express Airbus Barcelona⇒ ;
  • regular bus No. 46 belonging to the TMV service;
  • there are also two night flights No. 16 and 17.

The difference is that conventional transport makes more stops.

Aerobus stop.

Airbus stops, which you will find by their bright blue color, are at the exit from the terminals.

This transport transports passengers to the center from 6 am to 1 am. Route numbers indicate from which terminal they follow.

For example, when you go back to the airport, in case of departure from the first terminal, look for route T1. Travel time is 20 minutes, the ticket costs 5.9 euros.

If you plan to return no later than 2 weeks later, you can immediately purchase a round-trip ticket for 10.20 euros.

If you have chosen the shuttle bus from Barcelona airport to the center, go 100 meters to the left of the express bus stop.

This type of transport runs every 20 minutes, and the trip will take a little over half an hour. Paying 2.15 euros, you can get to one of the main city squares – Plaza Catalunya or Plaza de España.

Travel documents are sold at vending machines at stops or in the metro.

Aerobus ticket machine.

Do not forget about the possibilities of the Barcelona Card , which will reduce the cost of the trip to one euro. You can use it for an unlimited time.

Another way to save money is Hola Barcelona Card⇒ .

Valid on several modes of transport, including metro and RENFE trains. You can use it within a few days from the moment of activation.

Metro

This option has been available to citizens and guests of the Catalan capital since 2016. At this time, a new line L9S appeared, which connected the city center with the terminals of the El Prat air hub.

True, the metro is not the cheapest way to get from the airport to the center of Barcelona.

T10 is not valid for this route. A special rate applies here, which is 4.50 euros. Tickets are sold at the vending machines at the entrance.

The trains run every 7 minutes, the metro operates from 05:00 to 00:00. On Friday, the subway closes at 02:00, on Saturdays it works around the clock.

Line L9S is laid to Zona Universitaria station. From here you can go to the Collblanc station on the blue line L5 or to the Torrassa station on the L1 line (red).

Subway scheme is presented on its official website here ⇒.

Metro stations in both terminals.

Car rental at Barcelona airport

Car rental offices are located at both terminals of the El Prat air hub, and car pick-up stations are located within walking distance from the airport.

The cost of car rental at Barcelona Airport is from 10 euros per day.

The price depends on the brand of the car, the rental period and the generosity of the company.

It should also be taken into account that car rental offices located at airports are considered by car rental companies as premium class points. To save money, you can get to the center of Barcelona by other means of transport and rent a car at one of the city offices.

But it is much more profitable to book the right car in advance online. This will not only save time upon arrival, but also get up to 70% discount!

Those who plan to rent a car in Barcelona should take into account one important feature:

The capital of Catalonia is the second city in Europe in terms of the number of motorcycles and scooters, so sometimes trips resemble participation in the Autodrom attraction. The roads here are good, but the chance of getting a dent in a parking lot or while driving is higher than in other European cities. To protect yourself from paying fines for various damages to your car, you can purchase additional insurance.

Small Tip :

travel around the city by public transport, and use the car to travel around the region.

Taxi services

This option is especially convenient if you are traveling with children, arriving at Barcelona airport at night or traveling with large luggage.

Parking lots located at the central exits of the terminals are easy to find by signs.

You can recognize the official city taxis by the yellow and black color.

When you reach the car park, the employee will help you find the car, as they leave in turn.

The price list for taxi services at the airport is Central European. For a trip to the center from the first terminal they will take 30-35 euros, from the second – 25-30 euros. Luggage is included in this price. Travel time is 20-30 minutes depending on the time of day: traffic jams are not only a problem in Russia.

The disadvantage of this method of transportation is a lot of extra charges. For a trip on a weekend, on holidays, at night, guests of the city have to pay more.

But on the other hand, you can get to the center of Barcelona by taxi quickly and comfortably, and if a company travels, the price will be comparable to the cost of a bus.

Barcelona taxi drivers work on the meter, tariffs and extra charges are posted in the car.

Taxi stop.

Transfer from El Prat airport to the center of Barcelona

Ordering a transfer is the best way for passengers who love speed and comfort.

This option is especially recommended in the following cases:

  • you are traveling with children or a company;
  • a sick or inactive person is traveling with you;
  • you have large or oversized luggage;
  • you are bringing an animal with you;
  • your flight arrives at night or early in the morning.

Here are just three benefits of the transfer:

  1. Fixed price – pay a predetermined amount, no extra charge.
  2. No need to waste time waiting in line. At the right time, a staff member will meet you with a sign and help you with your luggage if necessary. Such services operate 24 hours a day and independently track the arrival of aircraft, which is convenient if the flight is delayed.
  3. No language barrier that bothers many travelers. When ordering a transfer, ask for a car with a Russian-speaking employee who will be happy to answer all your questions.

By choosing the right company, you can be sure of the professionalism of the driver and the good condition of the vehicle.

Here is a proven KiwiTaxi service that has received good reviews from our readers:

Check the cost of the type of transfer you need in one of the best car transfer booking systems – Kiwitaxi:

Transfer from Barcelona Airport will take a minimum of time , and you will arrive at the place you need not tired, but full of energy and ready to explore the beautiful capital of Catalonia.

If you are planning a visit to fabulous Barcelona, it is better to think in advance about the most convenient way to get to the city center. Then the trip will be even more enjoyable.

After all, it is difficult to disagree with the opinion of the French philosopher Albert Camus, who said:

“Travel, as the greatest and most serious science, allows us to rediscover ourselves.”
